I was just talking to my co-worker about going wedding dress shopping and she said something along the lines of 'Why the heck would you spend a few thousand dollars to buy a dress that you're only going to wear for one day? You should rent your dress!'
I could never rent my dress - but is it possible? Are there places that do this?

The answer is Yes. Or at least there used to be a place called Cinderella Rentals. This is going back over 10 years, but there must be other places.
Yes, you may not use the dress again, but don't you want your very own? After you are married, some people use their dress to make christening gowns, etc....

Is it possible - absolutely.
Has it been done - of course, plenty of times.
Will people know the difference - heck no.
Downfall: sometimes the rental is just as expensive as purchasing one.
There are affordable (under $500 even) wedding dress out there. Keep your chin up.
There are options. I got my dress my 329 with shipping.
Alfred angelo offers inexpensive dresses and mine is beautiful. Plus if you find a dress you love you can order it from netbride.com.
We used them for my dress, BM dresses and my moms dress.

Yes, you can rent dresses, but I would never do that. I know you only wear it once, but I'm planning of making mine into a Christening dress for my children when I have them.

You can definately do this. There are lots of asian places that have packages for dress rentals, bm dress rentals, tux rentals, photos etc.
