...to just walk down the aisle after the ceremony and straight into the limos to get to the reception site right away to take pictures? I just read through the receiving line thread, and we DEFINATELY don't want one of those, but how about just leaving the church without even taking pictures with people watching? Is that rude? I mean we are just going to see everyone an hour later anyway. We will only have 1 hour between end of ceremony and beginning of cocktail hour (with 15 mins travel time) and I want to attend my cocktail hour. I plan on having a detailed list of (posed) pictures to be taken and I would like them done with military precision ! If you are not ready to be in a picture, tough luck! This is the one thing I am going to be extremely adament about. Everything else, not a big deal...Misiing part of the reception for pics, big deal... What do you ladies think? Also, how many pics do you thing we can get in in 45 mins?? Thanks!

IMO, I think it is a little rude.. all those people came to see you get married and you can't even hang out for one second.. at least pose for a picture with everyone or something..

Re: Is it rude....
Part of me is thinking 'yes, very rude' but part is thinking 'oh well, everyone will get over it'. My mom wants us to stick around...I HATE the idea of missing part or all of the cocktail hour--meet and greet, eat and drink--this is the best part of weddings in my opinion! Don't know what to do!!

I don't think it's rude. The people at the wedding will also realize that they only have an hour to get to the wedding as well. I think this is the same thing as having it at the hall, where you usually can't have a receiving line because of time constraints.
I think it's more necessary to have a receiving line when you're ceremony and reception have a large gap between them...I wouldn't worry about this!

If you don't want reception line, notify the photographer that you and the party will immediately set up for pictures. This way they all see you posing, can take pictures and the ones that want to wait and say something will. (Honestly, I hate waiting on the line just to say congrats and you look so beautiful, bluh, bluh, bluh). You don't necessarily have to stand on the side and have a line form.

I don't think it's rude, as long as you make sure to greet each guest at the cocktail hour or reception.

We had our priest tell everyone to wait outside that there will be no receiving line. We walked outside, took a few photos and walked right into the limo. It did not take long at all.

Re: Is it rude....
Thanks for all of your opinions and suggestions...I think I may consider doing what Scoop said. Also, I didn't mention before that alot of the guests will be going back to the hotel to catch a van to the reception. By the time they go from the church, drop off their cars, get into the van, get to the recption, it will be about an hour or so anyway. I'm sure the guests don't want to miss the cocktail hour because they are waiting at the church to say a couple of words to us that they can say to us at the reception...I think I am trying to justify the decision I am leaning towards, can you tell? Guilt is a not so fun feeling!

Re: Is it rude....
We had to have a receiving line b/c I knew that my students & their parents would be coming to see us get married. We agreed that we'd make it as short as possible. Our dilemma was the 'throwing'. Our church has a problem with the mess & with the cold of Dec ... I didn't want people hanging around to throw & there would be nothing.
However, I don't think its rude ... if you don't want an announcement made, you can put a cute note in the program telling your guests that you'll be leaving right after the ceremony & there won't be a receiving line. I tried to find mine, but it wasn't saved where I thought it was. Sorry.

I think it may seem rude, but mostly I think people will get outside and wonder where the heck the bride and groom went??

I posted this on the receiving line thread also - we are having our photographer announce that we are not having a rec. line and we'll 'hide' after we step out of the church and then when all of the guests gather outside we'll come out so we can get the pictures of them throwing the rose petals.

Re: Is it rude....
friends of ours did this. We were all waiting for the receiving line, and they were waiting till we lined up, and then just walked out and we blew the bubbles, and the went right into the limos.
They had less than an hour from th echurch to the cocktail hour. I personally did not care for that at all. Like someone mentioned, they are coming to see you, and wish you the best. JMO

If there is a possibility of people showing up to the church who are not invited to the reception, then I would say it's rude.

Re: Is it rude....
That's what we did. Our site was an hour away from the church and we had to be there by 6:00 at the latest to allow for guests checking in, pictures, etc. Having a recieving line at church (in our case for about 100 people) can EASILY eat up about 40 minutes. And we didn't have 40 minutes to kill. Plus, it was the middle of winter and I didn't want my guests standing out in the cold while they waited for DH and I to come out of the church.
Everyone who went to the church was bused to the reception, so the plan was to have the best man direct everyone to the buses and to tell the guests that we would see everyone at the reception.
During the reception, I went to all the tables to thank everyone for coming. And believe me, they took plenty of pics then. As long as you make it a point to thank your guests and say hello at SOME POINT in the evening, I don't think a receiving line is necessary, either at the church or even at the reception site.

Re: Is it rude....
I am actually thinking that a receiving line is better, as we will probably not make the cocktail hour even without it. I would rather greet everyone at the receiving line, not be stressed for time taking pics, and then be able to really enjoy the reception since I will have seen most people at the church. I do not intend to spend a lot of time during my reception doing the rounds, may be rude but after all this planning I intend to enjoy myself!!
