One of my favorite great-aunts replied 'no' to my wedding because she has health problems, and she put a nice little note in with the reply, along with a check as a wedding present. Should I wait until after we are married to cash the check, or is it okay to cash it now?
My only concern with waiting is that I believe that checks are only valid for a certain number of days, and I'm not sure what that number is.

Re: Is it rude to...
Well my grand uncle could not attend my wedding due to health concerns. He did send us a check but we did not cash it until after the wedding along with the others that I have received from our guests.

Personally, I hate it when people hold onto my checks and don't cash them for a long period of time.
I gave you the check now, and that means I have that money now in my account... What happens if you wait and then you cash it and she dosen't have the money in that account. Then she will get charged.
Thank goodness that hasn't happened to me.

Ditto. I don't think it's rude to cash it now. If she didn't want you to have the money now she would have waited and sent a card around the date of the wedding with the check.

You know I totally did not even think about that. I was originally going to say that it is NOT rude to cash a check before the wedding date, but I was going to wait until after the wedding, but now after reading these posts I realize that by holding onto someone's check you may throw off their whole checking account. If FH & I should get checks before our wedding date, I will definitely be cashing the checks as they come in.

I thinik you should cash the check, my dad always complains when he sends people checks and they hold onto them, its screws up balancing the check book.

Re: Is it rude to...
usually it says on the check how long its valid.
if it doesn't, its usually up to a year to deposit.
I would do it now, I hate it when I give people checks and they hold them - it messes up my bank account!

If you cash it now - make sure a thank you is sent now, then after the wedding, send another note to her with a wedding photo for her to cherish!

I would cash it now-when I send a check, I prefer it to be cashed asap.
