Is it tacky to register for money? I don't even know how to go about it. I was thinking of adding it to my bridal shower invitations with a cute poem or something. Not sure of how I would word it.
You see, I live with my FI and we have many household items already. We would like some new things (you need something to open to make a good bridal shower anyway), but we would really like some money to take a nice Honeymoon.
I have seen websites where you can register with a travel agent, but I don't want to be locked into going though a travel agent.
Has anyone ever done this? If so, how have you handled it?
Thanks

Sorry, but yes, it is tacky to register for money. Why not try a honeymoon registry? You can go through honeymoonwishes.com. You basically setup all of the activities that you would like to do and you get the cash to go towards your trip.

There are a bunch of places you can register for your honeymoon. I can't think of a darn one right now. If you do a search on honeymoon registries something should pop up.
Unfortunately, we were shot down on the idea of saying: Kelly and Mike and registered at any bank So, I figure it wouldn't be a good idea for anybody.

yes, it is, but you can sort of get around it... Bed bath abd beyond gives cash back for items on your registry...If you register for what you do need from there, and maybe some things you dont you can always return them and get cash for it

I agree it's tacky to request $, but that's all we really want to.

Yep, etiquette says that we should not be asking for $$$.
I totally understand you though. FH & I already live together as well. I started a registry at Crate & Barrel because there are things that we do still 'want' vs 'need'. The idea of registering at BBB and getting cash back sounds like a good idea and a great way around not asking for cash.

We were considering that too. I heard that they give you cash back, but I thought there was some sort of catch.
Thanks Ladies!

IMO, I think it is a little rude to ask specifically for money....regardless of how nicely you present it. If you're looking for $$ for the honeymoon, a better way to ask for it might be to register on Honeymoonwishes.com You basically sign up for things you want to do on your honeymoon....you give an estimated $$ amount and then your guests buy different events for you. In the end, there is nothing saying that the $$ that aunt millie bought for you to have 'a romantic candlelit dinner' has to go to that, but it does come with a voucher saying what she bought it for. You can use the $$ for whatever you want on your honeymoon!! I just think it would be a little more subtle that way...JMO

I thought it would be, but I thought I would ask since people do things so differently these days.
So how does this Honeymoon wishes thing work? Do they cut you a check in the end????? Can you trust it?
I was thinking of registering with Liberty Travel, but we are not sure where we want to go yet and again, I don't want to be locked into anywhere.
Thanks

It is tacky.
DH and I are as poor as they come, but we love ALL of the gifts we got at our shower. It was really nice to have a really nice kitchen, etc when we moved into our house. And you will be so surprised at how generous people are too.
Off topic, is your doggie a beagle? We have one too, she is such a doll. And yours is so cute!

definitely tacky, though many of us wish it wasn't, lol. we had a house full of new things too, but you'd be surprised when you go register, how many things you can find and still love getting. new bathroom sets and towels, new comforter sets, new sheets, baking stuff... and of course, china and crystal and all that. it'll be nice to get those things for your shower; almost everyone will give you money for the wedding anyway. i think someone who didn't come sent us a gift and we got one gift card, other than that all cash and checks.
