I looked up etiquette for STD online and all sites seem to agree that STD are only required to be sent to those that you do not speak to oftenor who are out of state.
My FH's best friend lives in England-we went to his wedding last year-it was a spur of the moment thing. Anyway, FH says we should just send him the STD via email since I did them in photoshop and they are emailable. We were considering doing that for a few other friends who we see all the time and have already told about the wedding. He says it will be easier but I am not sure if it is tacky.
What do y'all think?

Re: Is it tacky to send STD via email?...
Honestly I really feel this could be the best solution to std's.
I did a newsletter via email to the people i have their email addresses to. I guess it would be considered a STD since i did put the wedding date on it.
Since the nature of a STD is a informal invite/informated way to send the soon to be invited guests there is nothing wrong with it.
I think as time moves on people would be doing more and more of this instead of spending $$ on printed ones.
Unfort. I do not have everyone's email addi so i am sending printed ones also.

Thanks. I think you're right. We will have to send some hard copies because we do not have all the email addresses, but I just wasn't sure if it would be seen as tacky or cheap. Thanks for the opinion. I appreciate it.

I think that if I received it via email my first thought would be that it was soooooo unique! But thats me, I wouldnt think you were being cheap, damn stamps are expensive! So why not save where you can. Thats my opinion.

Well the thing about it is that the point of the STD is a reminder to the guest, and thats why most people get refrigerator magnets so they just stay up there all the time. In an email they'll look at it that one time and it will get deleted over time.
But yes some people will not like it, just giving you a heads up. If they personally asked for you to email it to them then that is fine. Otherwise if i ever got an invitation or an std online, seriously i would be like, are you serious?

I think newsletters are different though and those are fine to send via email

Hmm yea I guess I see the point of the email BUT I know I personally put all important emails in a special folder and we would follow up with the invites anyway. No one is helping us pay for this wedding so if they don't loveit, too bad. They can choose not to come and if they resort to that pettiness, you can guess what my solution to them would be....

Re: Is it tacky to send STD via email?...
I don't see anything wrong with it..the real purpose is to inform them of the date so they can mark it on their calendars or whatever. DHs cousin is getting married next year and she said they will send out STDs but they just let everyone know verbally in the meantime..so we already have it marked on our calendar...I think email is great b/c they can always go back and look at it if they need to..hth!
We did NO STDs, btw..we just emailed everyone and told people as we (and my parents and ILs) saw them..

Well to tell you the truth you dont even have to do std's...everyone seems to be doing them now, bc they just might like them. But the thing about STDS as you know bc you searched, it is not necessary to send them...Only for weddings during a holiday, if there are many other events around the same time. Also for oot guests, so honestly you dont even have to do it.

i personally would send it through the mail. i think when u email it, not only is it tacky, it also makes it look like you didn't want to waste money on envelopes or a stamp, or take the time to write on that envelope.

Re: Is it tacky to send STD via email?...
I dont think that its necessarily tacky, I think that it is modern technology which enables the 'times to change' Also, not everyone even sends them, to OOT's or otherwise so I dont think a big deal should be made about them
Personally, I will be sending regular staionary STD's but that is only because i dont have everyone's email and some people are elderly and dont use a computer - Different factors make out decisions
I would not just send a regular email from my screen name though, I would use an invitation website so that it stays on their email and sends reminders

Re: Is it tacky to send STD via email?...
My friend send hers through email. BUT, she sent that to those she regularly corresponds with on email. Others (like older relatives) got theirs through the mail. You can always do some one way, and others another way.

Re: Is it tacky to send STD via email?...
Here is something i got from a site...like i said before, STD's are used for CERTAIN situations, but people liked them and sent them no matter what, it really isn't something you need to do. You said you are paying for the whole thing yourselves, so if you want just save yourselves money.
Save the Dates are not necessary, but are especially important if many of your friends and family will have to travel to your wedding location or if your wedding date falls on or around any holidays. You may want to consider sending them out even earlier, especially if your wedding is taking place at a popular destination or vacation spot.

I think that sending STD's through email is a great idea!! It's more efficient and people won't lose the information like when you get it in the mail and throw it in the garbage. I wouldn't think it was tacky if I received one, I would think it was smart!
