FH and I live in Nassau and the baker our RH uses is in Suffolk. I seriously have no time to drive to the bakery and do a tasting. Trust me- I am not a Weight Watchers lifetime member because I never tasted cake before Will the bakery 'laugh' at me if I do everything over the phone? I am going with a simpe tiered cake and my florist is decorating. Has anyone done their cake decision over the phone?

Lol, we live in Manhattan and our wedding is in Long Island. We just said we wanted a cupcake cake with different flavors. We haven't tasted any of them.... Keeping my fingers crossed!

I didn't taste anything either...just went thru the hall and hoped it was ok. It was totally fine. I wouldn't stress yourself out about it. What's the bakery? I live in Suffolk-maybe I've been there and can ease your mind?

Re: is it terrible if...?
i did drive out to suffolk to bring home cake to taste. i never met with anyone, i just picked up the samples and brought them home. i did all the 'designing' through email with the baker. not the way i originally thought it would go, but i sent pictures and explicitly described how i wanted everything. hopefully he gets it right. so i don't think it's bad if you do it through email or phone. you might want to taste it, but i can't see why the cake would be bad.
