I want to start shopping for dresses soon, but my mom seems to think it is WAY too early for me to start. I guess she is concerned that I will buy something soon, and then months from now see something I like even more. What do you girls think? I am getting married on June 4th 2006.

Re: Is it too early?...
I am getting married June 25,06 and I started looking at dresses last year when I got engaged. To tell you the truth, now is not to early. I am ready to buy mine reall soon. A lot of the places tell you they take 6-9 months to come in.
In regards to your mom saying that its to early and you might find something better. I would have to say that a lot of the dresses I tried on last year have not changed. Dresses you try on now are most likely going to be the same ones you try on a couple of months from now. I didn't buy anything last year because, my mom said it was to early.
I didn't believe it at first, but after 30 dresses I found the one. You will just know.

I agree. If you find the 'one' it's never too early. I bought mine last year because it was the 'one'.

I don't think a year in advance is too early at all considering that many dresses take 9 or more months to come in. I ordered mine in the middle of may '05 for 5/28/06.

I'm getting married 6/17/06, and I've already found my dress. I'm going to order it in a few weeks. Once you find 'the one', all other dresses that you see are just dresses. They're not YOUR dress. That's how I feel when I see other dresses now. Plus, at the bridal shop they told me it takes about 8 months for the dress to come in. So its better to be safe.

No, definitely not - I ordered my dress last week, it's going to take 8 months to come in. That's not uncommon either. Good luck! And, have fun

I don't think so...we're ordering mine on Tuesday...I'm getting married next July. Give yourself plenty of time to look and try on dresses. I honestly tried on about 20 dresses before I found the one for me. You don't want to feel rushed.

Hey Christine.. I'm getting married a month after you and I purchased my gown two months ago... My momma thought it was too early also, but once she understood that they take forever to come in, she understood. I would start asap... better to take your time and find the one you love!

I got engaged in Feburary, and we're getting married June 25, 2006. I ordered my dress a little over a month ago. If you find the 'perfect dress' I think you should get it. If you have ANY doubts, wait. You have plenty of time.

Depending on the dress, alterations, and where you order it from they say it takes about a year!! It takes a couple of months just for the dress to come in not to mention if its ordered wrong and the alterations need time.
so i don't think its too early.
P.S. I LOVE your avatar picture!!

Re: Is it too early?...
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Many of the gowns from major european designers take 8 months or more to come in. I think you're right on track if you start looking now. You may not find on iright away. I wouldn't worry ttooo much about changing your mind. You may find 'the one!'
Also, if you find one you like, and you're not 100% just because you foiund it doens't mean you have t ordr it right away. Find out how long it takes to come in, and then just make sure youi order it before that point comes. Dp if it takes 6 months, then you can still shop around and wait to see what comes out unti;l november

Hey date twin I honestly don't think it's too early. I actually think I'm cutting it close by not getting my butt in gear. I'd like to have a dress ordered by the end of summer to make sure I have enough time for fittings and god forbid...a mistake.

Definitely not too early! It might take you a long time for find the ONE -- and many gowns take 10 months to come in. Make an appointment for when YOU want to go.

I [icked out my dress on a fluke when I went to the salon to look at tehe BM dresses. I ordered the dress 2 months ago and I am getting married 4 months AFTER you! I say, better sooner than later....so many things can happen and you dont know how long it will take you to find the dress of your dreams. Start looking baby!!

I don't think it's too early at all. I'm getting married the month after you and I ordered my dress this past February. I just made a point of not looking at anymore dresses once I ordered mine.
There are some designers that take up to 8 months for the dresses to come in and then you have to have time for alterations, so I would definitely start looking soon.

Re: Is it too early?...
I already have mine picked and it was the first dress I tried on. I plan on ordering it next month, even though my mother is also telling me that it's way too soon.
It's NEVER too early. It may take you months before you find the perfect dress. Here's the one I selected below
