is it too early?

my wedding is in May of 2012...is it too early to start wedding dress shopping? i really want to (and so does my mom...she's so excited lol) but i feel like it's too early.

also is it too early to book photographer/videographer and DJ?

We booked the hall and church and that's it so far. I wanna book the DJ and photo/vidoegrapher next but I feel like its too early or that once I start booking other things I won't wanna stop planning and it'll be done so fast but I have so much time a year and 9 months!

It's not too early to do anything wedding related. You're not 2 years out anymore...so it's fine. Most if not all of the vendors (at least the reputable ones) already have their 2012 calendars out, so book soon!

i DEF would not look for the dress yet. styles change as well as your taste. i can almost guarantee that what you want and like now is not what you will like and want 2 years from now

my cousin bought her dress literally right when she got engaged. a year later closer to the wedding date she didnt like it anymore and bought a new one

anything else i would def book if they let you. you'll get this years prices before they inevitably go up

I booked my photographer already and my wedding is not till july 2012, and I started looking at DJ's. It def not too early! I personally am going to wait till next summer to shop for a dress only because I feel like styles may change a little bit, but that's up to you. If you think what you want won't change then go for it.

Definately not too early.. im in total interview mode for DJ, Flowers, Photographers, etc.

The dress I would maybe hold off because it is early and they do discontinue styles and your taste may change in the next 21 months.. but if your a decisive person, its always good to be ahead of the game!

Sorry, I forgot to address the dress question. I'd wait until you're like a year away. I've been dress shopping and the consensus is not to go in with any pre-planned ideas b/c styles change, new things come out all the time and you really won't know what you really want until you see them on you. Most importantly though, you don't want to pick something now and then in 8 months have second thoughts b/c you shopped too early. I probably won't start shopping until next summer.

It couldn't hurt to look at wedding dresses and get an idea of what you like.... I went one day & tried on a bunch of different dresses. There are so many different styles. I think I remember my sister-in-law buying her dress over a year and a half before her wedding. I guess when you fall in love you will know

We booked our photographer already & hopefully finalizing which DJ we want this week. We are 5/4/12. I figure I want to get as much done as possible. FH thinks Im crazy but doesnt understand how much more stuff there will be to do in 2011.

Goooooooooooo for it!

I'd go looking around but not buy anything. I was engaged back in 2007 and picked out my dress. it's 3 years now but a year after my wedding was supposed to happen I saw a picture of my dress and I just didn't like it anymore. now as I'm engaged again I want a really different kind of dress. well still a ball gown but just not the style I had back then. our tastes change! I can't wait to go looking around though

do the looking around but don't buy anything yet!

I mean even think back to maybe something you were wearing last year would you still wear it today? I know I find shirts all the time and I'm like god what was I thinking lol.

also btw start booking everything else! never too early for that. once I pick my hall I'm going to start on all that and I'm oct 2012!

Besides, I don't know about any of you, but we're kind of paying as we go, so the earlier we book the vendors, the better for budgeting!

Yes, that's what we are doing! So the earlier the better!

Its definatly not too early to book your vendors!! I booked most of mine two years prior. I'm so glad I did because I had a VERY popular date.

As far as dress shopping- go for it!! You should def. look around to get an idea. But just a warning- sometimes the people at the dress shops can be a little mean and say things like 'oh you're too early' and kind of brush you aside. That happened to me at a few places.

Good luck!

You can totally start looking at major vendors and if you love them, BOOK them! Its never to early to make sure you have the vendors that you really want at your wedding! I know too many people that waited and then the vendors they wanted were already booked for their day. So I say its never too early.

As for the Dresses.. Theres no harm in looking or trying them on to get an idea of what you like... I wouldnt order anything now tho cause its a little early still. But you can so try on and write down your top favorites. Then when your ready to buy you can try on more and then see if you still love your top choices. I have a few friends that fell in love with their dress early and weren't getting married for almost 2 years after that... They still LOVE their dress and cant wait to wear it!

There is no harm in looking, but I would wait until the date is closer to actually book the vendors and buy the dress. You can meet with vendors and occassionaly check in with them to make sure the date is still avilable. Someone also told me it is better to book later, becuase you will get better prices, however if you wait too long your vendors may be booked.

I'm definitely booking the vendors early. One of my top florist picks is already booked for 8/24, and there's a bride on here looking to book Chateau Briand on 8/24, should I choose CB. So, unless you get your vendors lined up, you could lose them. It's really not too early. If I choose CB, I will change my date to 8/17, if it's available.
