Is it too early?

Is it too early?

So I decided to go dress shopping for 'fun' with my mom and sister and I found a dress that I love . I am wondering if it is too early to pick my dress. It is a 2010 priscilla dress and I am not getting married until August 2012. I want to order my dress by this August (2011) bc I live in Boston and will be coming to ny for the alterations and I am in a M.A. program so I have limited amounts of time to do all of this. I have been to a number of stores and tried on many dresses, so I'm wondering between now and August of this year, will there be many more dresses to choose from? Do the shops get in new dresses often? Thanks for the help :)

There are a lot of girls on here that are getting married in 2012 that have their dress already.

There will be new dresses between now and August. I have spoken with a few places and they get their new line between now and March.

My guess is the fact that you are asking if there will be new dresses is an indication that you are not positive about the dress you found. I would recommend that you look again when you get back again. You can call the store every few weeks and make sure that the dress you liked is not scheduled to be discontinued.

Its not too early if you love the dress.. but all the new 2011 lines are coming out.

Ok thanks! I really love it ...Im just the first in my family to get married and I haven't been in a bridal party so I didnt know if I was being crazy by getting the dress too early or if there were reasons to wait. Thanks for the info:)

Congrats on finding something you like, but make sure you LOVE it before you buy. otherwise you may get buyers remorse and start doubting yourself.

I'm one of those girls who ordered her dress already... but thats because I live out of the country and I knew I had to get it early. If I was back at home, I probably would have waited a little longer, but to make sure I won't doubt myself I REFUSE to try on another dress just in case.

Ask the store how long until the dress will be discontinued, or if they can mark your name down and call you when it will be so they will call you. Thats what a boutique in Seattle was going to do for me, but I ended up getting mine from Macys. This way you have some more time to look aroud before you have to make a decision.

Thanks, Im really worried that the dress may be discontinued. I want to buy the dress here so that I can bring my mom or sister to see it when it comes in and gets altered etc. I am able to come down from Boston easily so it shouldnt be a problem. I guess it just seems like 2012 is sooo far away so I should wait...but I love it lol!

Once you find a dress you love ORDER IT! You don't want it to be discontinued and then never find something that compares.

I got my dress..it was a test sample, if it sold the line would sell at the store if it didn't sell well it wouldn't. So, I wasn't about to risk losing out. just gotta make sure it stores well for the 1.5 years before the wedding!!

i bought my dress a month ago, so I don't think it's too early!!

If you find a dress you love and can't get your mind off of then I would order it.

I ordered my dress one month after i got engaged it was the first dress i tried on and i ordered it on the spot because it was ment to be, Like Emily said once you find the dress that you love ORDER IT you don't want it to be discontinued but Mara did say all the new dresses are coming out so you have plenty of time.

No it is not too early. I actually bought one dress now for pictures we are taking before. My dress for the Ceremony and Reception I placed on tracking by putting a small deposit down ($50-100). The store will let me know if they get notice from the designer if it will be discontinued or price adjustment. Then I can place the order when they call or when I am ready. If I decide I want a different dress they will apply the deposit to the newer one.

Oh wow, I had no idea the stores did that. I will definitely see if they will do that for me. I was supposed to go to Kleinfeld and Bridal Refl. this week just to feel like I saw everything and then back to Priscilla Sunday, but due to a familiy emergency I had to cancel my two appointments in the city. I will definitely see if Priscilla will do that for me. Thanks so much for the information.
