Well I have already started my invitation making process (We are getting married 5/15/15) and I am getting some little things done like cry packs and we are also making our card box (we are doing an English Pillar letter box) and I've won a few things like garter set and TU cards so those are taken care of but I would like to hear what everyone else thinks.. I posted something similar on 2015 Brides forum with no luck =/

I think booking vendors like a DJ, photographer, etc are okay, but I would watch out when it comes to the detailed things. I've been engaged for a year and a half and even though my theme has stayed the same throughout, I changed my mind about a lot of little things. If you're on this site, Pinterest, read bride magazines, etc there are constantly new trends and ideas. I would wait on certain things like invitations ( I changed my mind at the last second with invitations and I thought I knew EXACTLY what I wanted). But of course that is just my opinion. I know there are a lot of girls who did things way in advance and it completely worked for them.

Anything that requires a date to be printed on it, don't do it until you're absolutely positive of the date and that you've secured a venue. If it's just decor, that's fine, but also make sure that after you make it, that it won't be damaged if it's going to be packed away until ready for use.

If you have a date, it's never too early to book vendors. I will have had a 2 year engagement by the time my wedding comes and we booked our RH the week after we got engaged! Best decision we ever made! It made paying things off stress free!

I think you have PLENTY of time to get everything done... Some things, like hotel blocking, they won't even allow you to do this early. Maybe a DJ and florist are ok, but I wouldn't go into such small details as of yet, as the other ladies have said, trends and ideas change and you don't want to waste your money!
Enjoy this time as an engaged couple and don't stress because it will ALL get done!

booking my florist- you can get a feel for pricing and creativity levels and you can always change specifics with most florists (ask!) picking out linings- the venue usually does this at the last meeting. invitations - you can start getting samples, but you have to be careful as they may discontinue? you may want to change wording/ timing.... we started this process 1 year out.
DJ- we did at approx 1 year out, some said they already had bookings at this point limo- somewhere between 1 year and 6 mo. we did @ 1 year and tried to add cars @ 6 mo they were already sold out hotel blocks- NOT worth it, our hotel closed down in april!!!! photo & video- DO ASAP!!! we lost a photographer we wanted due to waiting (@ 20 months out they were booked) but you may not be able to get 2015 pricing until early 2014!

I agree 100%.. to clarify, I am making the invitations from scratch pretty much. I am embossing the 'folders' that hold all the little cards and the invitation and I am printing on the vellum to go over the actual invitation part but I am not printing any of it yet... the embossing is our initials.

It's never too early! Once you have it set everything up, that way you get exactly who you want and it gives you more time to pay everything off!

I think it's never too soon for your revenue, DJ and limos because those get booked up really fast. Many of the other things can wait, but photographers would be next.

You have plenty of time, but seriously it's never too early! Just a tip, hold out on booking photo/video for at least a few months to see if any cheaper, new photographers/videographers come out. We booked ours really early, and while we are REALLY happy with them, so many new people have come on to the scene for way better price who are just as good!

HmMm I would wait only because I don't think you should give any companies deposits so far in advance. You don't want to deal with any headaches if they close up shop. Maybe, if any, only book vendors that you really want to secure 9a certain photographer, videographer, band, dj, etc). Vendors like florists can be booked within months before the wedding. that's just my $.02.
