I'm getting married March 20, 2004. My FI's mom said it was too early to start looking for wedding dresses because the styles will change. Is she right or should I start looking? And if I should start, where should I start?

I'd wait a bit, until at least the spring.

Re: Is it too early to start dress shopping?
I personally disagree.... I found my dress in a magazine 6 months before FH proposed! Once you find it & love it... go for it!
I did, and am so glad.... Now it's just waiting in the bridal suite for alterations!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say wait. If you buy too early you may see something else you like. It has happened to many ppl I know. They bought the first dress that they loved, only to fall in love with another.

I don't think it is too early, especially if you don't know what you want. Once you start trying them on things change. Really change. I tried this halter style dress on that I loved in the mag. When I looked in the mirror at the bridal salon I realized that I'd better STOP working out my arms so much, I looked like I was ready to wipe some a$# not get married. I was cinderella-barbarella. Even my girlfriend looked scared.

MarchBride-
Here is a compromise, you can go look and try on, but DO NOT purchase anything too soon.

Im with DrmnBlnd - Im not getting married till May 2004 and I bought my dress already. Mine takes 6 months to come in. I just look at it as one less thing I have to worry about.

Re: Is it too early to start dress shopping?
I bought my dress over a year and half before my wedding. I got it at a vera wang sample sale - a stranger came from across the room and told me that the dress was made for me - It was incredible and I loved it the day of my wedding as much as the day that I bought it!
Enjoy shopping - But I agree -not to buy anything too soon (but I guess I shouldn't preach, cause I totally decided on mine in an instant - with my MOH with me)

You can always start trying stuff on- it doesn't mean you have to order it right away-- if you love something you can always go back in a couple of months and put the deposit down.

When you find it & you think it's for you.... you'll know the moment you put it on!
I put mine on, and my MIL said, no questions.... it's made for you!

Re: Is it too early to start dress shopping?
I was supposed to get married November 2002. I bought my dress in December 2001. Now my wedding is postponed until May 2003. I don't think that my dress will be 'out of style'. Styles do not change so much in a year. Besides, when you find THE ONE thats just it! I say start shopping now. It may take you a while to find one you like anyway. Besides, god willing you only get to pick out one wedding dress in your entire life. Take advantage by having the extra months to try on all of those pretty dresses.

Re: Is it too early to start dress shopping?
I would wait a little longer, because like the other girls said, you may fall in love with other one down the line, plus the designers and bridal shops will be coming out with different designs each seasons, I would get some Bridal magazines and pull out some styles that you like.

Re: Is it too early to start dress shopping?
I am also getting married in May 2004, and I ordered my dress right before Thanksgiving. I saw it at the first store I went to and knew it was THE ONE. I did go to a few other stores, but just to be sure. I am happy I have my dress and its one less thing to worry about. I say start looking!

I am a 9/04 bride and I am actually going for my first dress experience on Feb 22. I saw a pic in a magazine I love and I know its definatly 'the dress'
