I definitely think there can be too much. (For example, people tend to go overboard on having poems for everything...)
But what all are you doing?

IMO i always see it as it could never be too much because all of these elements only make your wedding so much more personal and unique. It also sets the tone and mood for your event when you incorporate different colors and themes.

People are totally going to notice and appreciate all that you have done! PLUS it's YOUR wedding, you will know your own limit

I agree. I went nuts with personal touches and it was so worth it. People kept commenting on how my wedding was so well put together and how they never saw such attention to detail. It made all the hard work worth it. You can see pics in my album. I had matching theme oriented church programs, table cards numbers, unity candles, aisle runner, almond favor boxes, menu's, slipper baskets, table crystals, custom air fresheners for guests cars, rehearsal dinner invites and wedding invites. I really made it feel like OUR wedding, and not just another wedding i have been to a million times. Go for it! And if you need help, post away!

The only way that I think you would go overboard is if you have more DIY projects than you can handle personally (or want to handle personally).
If you have the time, money and desire to do it all, go for it!

Re: Is it too much??
As someone who did just about everything I could think of... No, I don't think you can! Our guests LOVED all the things we did, and kept commenting on each thing as they noticed it. My banquet manager said to me, 'You know, I thought it sounded crazy when you were telling me all the things you did, but seeing it all put together here in the room, it's beautiful.' I think the guests like seeing all those details, that way your wedding is totally unique! Honestly, I did all those things for me, anyway! I enjoyed all the details, I was not stressed at all about my little projects and had fun doing them. I loved walking into the ceremony and the reception room and seeing US everywhere (like our style... not necessarily our picture ) I love that I can look back at the pictures and see all the things that we created. Also, you’ll find there are things you won’t do, like I didn’t have any OOT guests, so I didn’t do any OOT bags, or I didn’t like the slipper basket idea… You’ll find there are ones you just personally don’t think are necessary for YOUR wedding. I think if you're super stressed over them THAT would be the only way it is too much.
