What is an acceptable time frame for doing a registry? FH and I were thinking April of next year for our October wedding. Is there some sort guideline about this? Any info is greatly appreciated!

Re: is it too soon to register?
No, because people often want to get something as soon as you are engaged, and unless you want to start a bowl and vase collection, you should register whenever you have a chance.
I wouldnt say its too soon, especially if you are going to have an engagement party, then people can buy you things off your registry.

ditto. If your having an e-party,people will want to buy you things. Plus with the holidays coming up, some people might want to buy you things.

Re: is it too soon to register?
We registered a week or after we got engaged.. after we received our first ugly vase. Better to have something out there for people to choose from, then nothing at all.
You can start something online and just add basics- things you don't need to see in person. Then hit up the stores for the major items.

i don't think so at all...the way you can manage most registries online these days makes it alright to register then check and see if things go out of stock or season, or even change your mind about your tastes or needs. we were asked by family to register before our engagement party that was in June, and i thought that would be an issue, but it isn't because i can go online and change things. love the internet!!!

Deb- we only got one-- and it wasn't THAT ugly.. It was from Crate & Barrel, where we were planning on registering anyway so we got a gift card instead when we returned- it was just, 'not our taste'.
I have another small vase that one of my mom's friends got us- AFTER we were registered... I think I smell a Marshall's purchase or Saks Off Fifth.

We have the same wedding date! We're registering soon b/c my parents want to get us stuff for christmas. But I don't think it's too early. Just keep an eye on things that way you'll know if any items get discontinued.

The thing is I am sure they cost a fortune but were SO not us -- two were Tiffany's and one was Lenox and one was I have no idea. They were really ornate which is really not me...

I really do not care for them and what do you do with this many bowls? You are lucky...C+B stuff is so safe -- everything is simply elegant -- I shop there a lot.

Re: is it too soon to register?
someone did get us a sliver bread knife from Tiffany.. I mean, it's nice and maybe we'll use it during the wedding to cut the challah-- but I mean, we are registered- if you are going to spend the money to get us a silver knife at Tiffany- just buy us a place setting from Fortunoff-- I mean, really!

Sometimes it is useful to at least register one place early on. This is because now your have holidays and birthdays coming up and people want to get you something useful.

Re: is it too soon to register?
FH and I registered in Jan after we got engaged in Nov. - People kept asking me where I was registered. - Many people want to give you a gift..... I didn't register for things like towels and sheets .........China, a vase or 2, flatware, crystal etc.

Keep in mind also, that registries can be nontraditional so that you can get things you need rather than china etc...

No, never too early. I registered 7 days after I got engaged. Then when people buy you gifts, you can get what you want as opposed to stuff you'll have to return!
