Invite people to your wedding via email or website? I was asking because a friend of mine suggested I try to send invites to people via internet, to cut back on invites (especially to people Im sure won't show to the wedding but will attend the reception).
I thought and still do think it was a cool idea and still do. I have a friend that can make a website and make it so everything is password protected. I know the knot does the same as well. Then FIL said that mailing invites is better and adds class to it (whatever that means ) that inviting via interent is lazy. Just wondering what your opinions are?

i would send the standard invite. unless you are talking about a lot of people, its easier just to send it in the mail.

That's the plan but to send the interent invite to those I know might not attend or will just attend the recpetion. To be honest to spend the money and know people wont come to the wedding ceremony why spend the money to send them a formal invite?

Personally, I think it's tacky... basically it comes acorss as you're 'trying to save money on invites' i would eitherchoose a less expensive invitation or not invite them at all....JMO

Sorry to crash your board, but well, I'm bored and '06 is slow. As a an invitee I would not be happy getting an email invite to a wedding. That sort of thing is okay for a BBQ, but if you're having a formal wedding, you should send invitations to everyone. You can get fairly inexpensive invitations and address them yourself or on the computer to save money. When I am invited to a wedding and can't attend, I usually send a gift anyway. If I got an email invite, I don't even know if I'd send a card!

IMO: I would send invites in the mail to all of my guests. There are beautiful, very simple invitations out there that are inexpensive, or you could make them. Either way, I know that I would not like to be invited to a wedding via E-mail, so I would probably avoid doing this to my guests.

we had a few of those 'they aren't coming.' but we send invites regardless. i think that the email invite just shows that you don't care about them enough to send a real invite.

Definatly through mail... If you have a 'B list' then i'd say maybe skimp on some invites... but if we're speaking etiquette here, its a big no-no!

Re: Is it wrong to...
I have been thinking of getting very plain, cheaper invites for the people we know won't come but have to invite...i.e. FH's great aunt who is in a nursing home. I would try that instead. But, make sure you don't send nice invites to people who talk to the people getting the crappy ones!

I would send them invites in the mail. I would be confused by an electronic invitation to a wedding. I think that it would also make me feel rather unimportant, like you really dont want me at the wedding so you just send me an email.

To be honest-I wouldn't go to a wedding if they sent an e-mail. I would recommend sending the invites.

no, I would send actual invites. unless you are having a very informal backyard type wedding, I don't think it would be appropriate to email invitations. IMO

I personally wouldn't mind, and I wouldn't even think about the person skimping on costs - who cares about that? If they want to save money then go for it!
This isn't exactly the same, but I was recently invited to a wedding where the invite was a simple 8x10 card, and we were instructed to reply by email. I actually found it convenient, and the invite was really simple but nice.

standard invite for me, to me an email is a too impersonal for an event such as a wedding.

the person may be offended to receive an email invitation....like you are inviting them last minute or something...

I would send the regular invite, some people could be insulted by an email.
