Hi everyone! My finance and I have set our wedding date to January 2, 2010. We realized that this the day after New Years but we didn't think it was that big of a deal. When we told both families what the date was there was a lot of negative feedback about the date. What is your opinion?

congrats and welcome. In a nutshell, I think that no matter what day you decide to get married, if people want to be there and celebrate with u on your special day, they will take the appropriate measures to make it happen. good luck!

Congrats and Welcome! I agree with Goldie completely plus, you will make the third bride to get married on Jan 2, 2010! Yay! Hopefully Teri and StineandAndy chime in that's there date too!

Nah, don't worry about it! We thought about that date...it will be wonderful and I agree with the other girls...those who plan to spend your special day with you will have to make the necessary accommodations for the timing.

Real friends and family will make it. That being said, the only issue I can forsee is that its a friday wedding and any OTT guests may not be able to take the day off. A lot of companies these days prohibit taking the day before or after a holiday off.

I personally wouldn't mind that date! But if you got negative feedback from a lot of people, those people might not make it..if you have your heart set on having a certain number of people there, you might want to use another date

Congratulations and welcome! I think it's a good date. If people have enough time they'll be able take off... In this situation I would probably send out Save The Dates since it's so close to the holiday... but I think it would be fun and extend the New Year holiday a little!!
We have two January 2, 2010 brides here already... I am sure they'll help you out

A lot of people are probably going to be returning to work from their vacation so that may be something to think about, did you consider having it on new years?

I dont think there's anything wrong with the date. People have Jan 1st to recover and be ready for your wedding the next day!

i think maybe their negative feedback is just coming from shock of the date, so to speak. they hear its right after a holiday and freak out but when you really think about it, its plenty of time and the day itself is actually fine. theres other 2010'ers getting married on that date as well

Well Teri & I are both getting married on Jan 2nd, and I am sure she will agree with me when I say, its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for me, I actually got a lot of positive feedback since we have ALOT of out of town guests. Its an easy travel time b/c everyone will be up already for the holidays.
Dont worry about everyone else, its fine!!!

I dont think theres anything wrong with it at all. Its a Saturday night, its not like its in the middle of the week!

I dont see it as being a problem. MOst people are back from vacation by the 1st and if you send Save the dates, you'll be fine since your giving your guests the date ahead of time.
