Congratulations!! Sorry, I don't know much about organic veggies, other than that they are usually better quality (fresher) in my supermarket than the regular veggies

Yes, I heard the same thing, but then I also heard that bugs get on them for that reason. I think if you wash your veggies really well, you shouldn't have to worry! And congrats!!!!

Organic can be better but is not always. The FDA doesn't regulate the food. I have heard that some organic food is grown with chemcials, etc and then they remove traces of it.
It's a catch-22 type of thing.

I eat straight up organic food. I do think it is better because it does not contain antibiotics and hormones. It is very natural and I think it would be the best thing for you and the baby.

In theory it is better for you, but in reality it is hard to tell since there are little to no regulations in many places on what can and can't be labeled organic (and little reinforcement of what regulations do exist).
If I have the $$$ I still try to buy organic fruits/veggies, as well as free-range,antibiotic free eggs - just in case!

Re: is organic really better for you?
Congrats!-Wonderful news--sounds like a HM baby!
At home I eat organic bananas-love them. I also get kosher meat because it's easier on my belly which to me translates into better than the other stuff
If it helps to put in into perspective, women for years have been eating food and most don't eat a steady diet of organic and their babies are just fine.
Do what you are comfortable with. Take your vitamins and I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months.

Cows and other animals are pumped so full with antibiotics and growth horomones and they have such poor diets. Please do consider at least hormone free meats and milk products.

I eat free-range chicken that don't get pumped full of antibiotics and beef that is fed an all natural diet with no hormones. I also buy mostly organic food. It's more expensive, but I actually feel better without all those toxins and chemicals in my body.

I have a friend who is actually a chemist in this business. She was telling me that 'organic' farmers actually use pesticides, they just don't use as much as regular farmers do. And right now, they're working on ways to use pesticides and then completely remove all of it from the plant.
She said you should be okay as long as you wash your vegetables thoroughly.
Congrats on your baby!

Re: is organic really better for you?
Free range chicken does not always ensure that the chicken was treated much better. I was told by a professional that it could simply mean the chicken had some time to roam about. It doesn't ensure that the chicken was fed that much better.
It is very hard to know for sure since there aren't regulations.
Congrats and goodluck!

Yes, organic is better for you and your baby, and better for the environment.
It is also important to avoid any raw fish or eggs, have plenty of folic acid and iron, and avoid alcohol and smoking.

Congrats!
As a chemical engineer who buys/eats organic I recommend that you go organic.
The government issued a set of national standards governing Organic food labelling in 2000 which has really helped to standardize the industry.
Always wash produce and use good rules for food safety to avoid salmonella and other food borne ailments that will be present in traditional or organic food.
