Is shortening a train very expensive?

I am starting to try on dresses and I found one I 'sorta' like but it comes with a Monarch Train. A Monarch train extens 12 FEET from the waist!!! No Thank You!

I can only imagine what it would cost to cut this train off. Anyone have experience with shortening trains?

Have you tried it on yet? Some designers allow you to change the dresses and some don't change anything (so the bridal store would have to change it). Just to give you an idea of what a change will cost... I went to Lillette's yesterday and saw a Demetrios dress that I liked. It had sleeves and I wanted strapless, Lilette's told me that Demetrios would charge me about $400 to change that.

Good Luck!

Edited to say: It's a very beautiful dress!!!

It also has to do with the type of fabric, embroidery or bead work ... if it is too busy it is more expensive. One thing though ... try to get the closest dress to your dream ... sometimes after we alter a dress it does not look how we imagine. It did not happen to me with my wedding dress, but with other dresses.

good luck!
