I am planning a wedding for a saturday. I got a quote from the tavern for around 50000... this is for their bigger room.. I havent looked around much .. i know I want to stay in manhattan for the wedding, but 50000 estimated (just for the venue and food) seems a bit much.. I dont know much about wedding though, so any advice or input would be appreciated!

Re: is tavern on the green worth it?
for how many guests. Halls charge based on a price per person so cant say whether 50k is too much or not. If you have a VERY large wedding then it might be ok, if not then yeah its too much.
ALso depends on what you are getting

I also wonder how many people you are having for that price....
I know that Tavern on the Green has a reputation of being 'pricey' it's in the city, famous etc....that said I think it's a personal decision...could you get a nice hall for less? Absolutely, but is this the place you really want and is it in your budget? If so then go for it!

Re: is tavern on the green worth it?
i went to a christening party there. it was very beautiful but for that price i would want to be the only event there. there was a wedding going on at the same time as the christening and we could totally see their ceremony through the window in our room. had i been this bride, i would have been pi$$ed that i spent so much money and another party was going on at the same time AND could see into my ceremony. i would inquire about this before booking

I went to an event there and was not impressed with either the decor or food. That being said, if you are in love with it, then the money is more worth it. I agree with the others, it definitely depends on how many people...!!

My future MIL said she just went to a wedding there and said the food was not good at all. I trust her taste because she is a great cook. They might put on a beautiful event but I would def. ask around about the food or request a tasting of the dishes that are on their menu if they even do that. Good luck!

There are some really nice hotels that you can use in the city that might be better than Tavern on the Green. I've been there for a wedding and the food is not that great. Though its nice to have the park, when you are outside at times you end up smelling the horse manure thats littered there. If you really like the garden and park idea, maybe look into Fort Tryon Park (Upper West Side) for the ceremony and then have reception at New Leaf Cafe

Seems pricey -- there are lots of other venues in Manhattan where you can spend a lot less. remember, you are also going to need decorations, entertainment, photographer, etc.
Check out hotels, and some museums rent out rooms too. Or go across the river to brooklyn or Long Island City, so at least you can get a view of Manhattan from the room.

I went to a wedding there and it was out of this world. I believe regular catering halls (not in NYC) go for around 50,000 or more so that much for Tavern is an awesome price I think

In my opinion, no. I was seriously considering having my wedding there and I did some research. I heard a lot of complaints about service and the times we've gone it hasn't been that great. I think you're partially paying for the name. Oh, and you have to pay seperate or extra for the parking if I remember correctly.
