Re: Is the CPA really needed????

My DH works in accounting but without the CPA will never be able to be head of the accounting department most places. He never sat for it because he doesn't have enough accounting credits. My uncle has it, passed first try, and definitely makes much more $ and has a great deal more job opportunities because he has it. He also plans on doing tax work privately after he retires, and I think he will get more clients with the CPA.

So no, you don't HAVE to have it, but you will definitely be limited in opportunities and money in the accounting field without it. I would definitely try the test again.

Yous hould definately take it. If not you will be limiting yourself, especially if you want to work for a public company.

I am a CPA...here are my two cents. Is having a CPA going to make you a better accountant? No, definately not. I always say that the license has nothing to do with who is smarter or better, but really is a judge of who had the discipline to study really hard and sacrifice a lot of time to pass an exam.

HOWEVER, many jobs out there require you to have a CPA. They won't even consider you if you don't. And, if you ever want to be in any position above senior accountant, it would be wise to have one or the job selection is very limited.

Since you've passed two parts already I suggest just going for the other two. I know it is hard and is a huge sacrifice but will benefit your career in the future if you plan on sticking with the field. Even if you do plan on sticking with business or management, it stills looks really good. Sign up for one of those review classes, they really do help a lot.

Hi I am a CPA and I agree that the test is hard. Having a CPA definitely opens alot of doors for you and you can DEFINITELY make more money with those 3 little letters after your name. It took me 4 years to pass the exam if that makes you feel any better. Have you taken the CPA review class? That helped me alot. You have to dedicate yourself to pass the exam. I stayed home for 3 months studying but I passed

Hey I have an acctg. question. Mybe one of you guys can help me. DH wants to take money he has in a profit sharing acct. but his boss said to find out from his acct. how much the penalty would be because it's based on our annual salary. Do I need to see an accountant just for this???

The CPA will open up a lot of doors for you. You do not have to get it, but you will have a lot more options with it.

The test is hard, but it is doable. I am glad I did it, and whenever I look for a job they ask if I have one.
