For those brides getting married at the reception hall. Do you invite the officiant to the reception. Or do they just perform the ceremony and leave?

We invited ours because we just love him so much, but unfortunately he has another wedding that day. We told him if anything changes to let us know...we would love it if he spent the day w/us!

Re: Is the officiant invited to the recption
Good Question.
I would say no, becaue I do not 'know' them, nor are they from my church, but i'm not sure what 'ediquette' (sp) is... I don't think we're giong to invite them to stay... why pay So much money for them to do ceremony, THEN to eat.. PLUS, where do you sit them? (I would have only met them once before?!)...
But what aer you SUPPOSED TO DO??!?!?!

Re: Is the officiant invited to the recption
We sent the Rabbi and Cantor STD magnets and will send them invites. I think my parents have done that for the bar/bat mitzvahs as well. The rabbi never stayed for the dinner but usually had a bite to eat during the cocktail hour. As for our wedding, I think they might stay considering the fact that they rearranged their vacation plans to marry us...but I am not sure.

We are but he is special to FH. He baptized FH in Lake Ronkonkoma.
Usually they bless the main course.
We are sitting him with Fhs parents probably. But if you were wondering where to sit him, anywhere you might have space, family table style. Priest and Pastors usually get comfortable with people rather easily.

Re: Is the officiant invited to the recption
We didn't invite ours because planning our wedding was the first time we even met him. Do I feel guilty, a little but I'm sure he wouldn't have come anyway since the church has confession right after our ceremony.

Re: Is the officiant invited to the recption
I thought u had to invite him. But the way I'm seeing it is, only if you are close.
I don't know my clergy personally so I don't think I am going to invite him.

Yes we are inviting him and his wife. He is the Rev. at our Unitarian Church. We've only been going there nearly a year but we've spoken to him on numerous occassions and it's a very tight fellowship.
