i have noticed that with the summer i eat a ton more of fruit. usually during the day 1 cup of something or other (blueberries, strawberries, etc) and then at night another cup.
do you think that's too much? i know fruit has the sugar carbs in it.
its better than eating chips...thats how I think of it...plus they have water in them...so that helps as well... I would think 5 fruits a day is good

Re: Is there such a thing as too much fruit??
Two cups of fruit is not bad at all...
Blueberries are great and have a lot of antioxidants...there are some fruits that should be eaten in moderation....watermelon is high in sugar....mangos too...
Overall though you need teh fruit...teh sugar breaks down faster than starch carbs... as long as you are not overeating and your body needs the calories...
Most fruits also have fiber which is very good and much needed for your body!
5 servings of fruit!

As far as eating low carb goes- the fruits that do not spike your insulin and therefore cause you to convert your carbs to fat are melons and berries...

Fruit and carbs
they do have carbs and if you are doing atkins i think they tell you to cut teh carbs for a few days/weeks. but if you want to eat fruit, i wouldn't worry too much because from what i know they are not refined carbs (like sugar/crackers/cookies). i guess in a way they are 'good' carbs. but i also have read that you shouldn't eat carbs after dinnertime so i guess if you wanted fruit for dessert, maybe having it before 6 or 7pm and not at 10pm before bed is better???? At least I would think during the day it's OK. And I don't think anyone gained tons of weght from eating apples over cookies! LOL

Re: Fruit and carbs
Some fruits have very high glycemic indexes, which raise your insulin more than certain breads, or other carbohydrates.

Try to make sure they are organic. Berries are on the top of the list for foods that carry pesticides, and water doesn't wash them off (otherwise they'd wash off in the rain!).

I try and stay away from fruit.. it bloats you, has a lot of sugar and it takes your body longer to break down..

I was just going to say something similar. You have to be careful with fruit. A lot of it has sugar and is filled with carbs.
Yes it's better than eating chips and cookies, but don't think you can have as much of it as you want.
2 cups isn't bad, just becareful with it!

I might have one serving of fruit every three days, not much at all. I eat it when I crave sweats, wich is rare.
Some fruits are better for you. Cherries are great!

And bananas actually have a lot of fat in them.

I'm no expert but I don't think you can go wrong with fruit - even with the carbs. It's mostly water anyway

Re: Is there such a thing as too much fruit??
I am not an expert, but I read a lot about this type of stuff. I have learned that although fruit is low in calories, some fruits raise your insulin level so high, that it it stored as fat before you have the chance to burn it off. I eat fruit when my sugar levels ar eat their lowest, which is after a work out or in the morning.

I try and aim for the fruits that are really high fiber as well... I can eat a whole pint of raspberries as a snack!
