A 16 fits me perfectly right now but I really want to lose some weight... Is it a bad idea to order a 14? The difference in the size chart is 2 inches on bust, waist, and hips. I don't want to order 16 and lose the weight and have the dress look funny when taken in.

i dont think its a bad idea at all, if you want to be a size down, it will give you ultimate motivation to do so!

Re: Is this a bad idea..
i think it depends on the dress. some dresses will look fine when taken in a lot and other won't. when i ordered my dress they kind of forced me to stay with the larger size, promising me that if it needs to be taken in a lot it will look fine because of the style of the top of the dress.

It is a fit and flare with beading on top.

I would order the 16 just to be safe. It is better to have it be too big and get taken in then too small.

Personally....even if i wanted the modivation...I would order the size that fit me, or even one larger. It is SO much easier to take fabric in than let it out.

I ordered mine one size smaller too. The smaller size fit me nice and snug in my waist and hips, which are still shrinking with my workout routine. The 'problem' area is my chest, namely my boobs. They're gotten bigger since I put on some weight over the past few years and I've already seen them shrinking in size as I lose the weight. My dress has a lot of lace and beading and I wanted minimal work to be needed on the bodice material as to not damage or distort the pattern. Really, to each her own. Do what makes you feel the most beautiful and comfortable.

My dress that I tried on was a little tight, so I went 1 size larger. I'm currently working out and dieting, but I didn't want the extra pressure of having to lose weight. If I do, I do. If I don't, I don't. As long as I don't gain weight, I'm be good.

I havent found my dress yet, but I do have one that is 99% in the running to be it. Its a size 10 and fits me snug as a button and I can barely breath...but I wouldnt order a bigger size...even thought they say they can alter it and bla bla bla, to me the dress would still look off....Im gonna stick with the 10 and starve till i get married lol

While I agree that ordering a size down gives you the motivation, you would not believe how many 2012 brides were terrified right before their first fitting that their dress wouldnt fit. One girl had to get a new dress rush ordered because it was a bit too tight. The month before the wedding I felt like I ate more than ever because of all the stress. You're going to be paying a buttload in alterations anyway, the difference between minor alterations and taking it in a size is NOT worth the stress of it not fitting. I would suggest starting your fittings maybe 2 weeks early if you're worried about how much work they may have to do.

I would never order a size smaller, nor would I trust a salon that would allow me to do so.
I have lost 26lbs and I am still the same size pants. So you may not lose weight in the places you want to lose weight.
