I want everyone at our wedding to feel like we went the extra mile to include everyone...so I have some ideas...pls tell me what you like or don't like....I will not be offended by your honesty.
1. I always sing 'How Wonderful Life is because your in the World' by Elton John to my son...my FH said that after the dinner orders have been taken I should dance to that song with our son...I love the idea....but I was thinking that people get bored watching other people dance...so I want to start off the song just me and my son James...then ask my sister and her son and my future brother in law and his daughter to join us on the dance floor....then ask anyone who is there with their child/parent to join us on the dance floor for a special parent/child dance.
2. The guys in the bridal party were daring each other to strip down to their boxers and dance to 'old time rock and roll'....this sparked an idea...what if I have all the men come to dance floor for a competition to the song...who ever wins will recieve movie tickets for 2 to a Loews Movie Thearter.
3. If I have a competition for the men I should have one for the women....but the only thing I can come up with is a Hula hoop contest.
Please tell me what you think...sorry its so long.

I'm not to fond of the dance competition. I think the day is to be circled around u and FH not the bridal party...
They say time flies by fast and it's ur only day to be the center of attention... why not jus use that time for you & FH and ur son.. ??

I like the first idea about the child/parent dance - thats very special and will mean alot to people.
I would skip the competitions it's YOUR day, and I dont think a competition for the bridal party (or all the men/women) is necessary - JMO. good luck!

I love the idea of the parent/child dance. That's a really great idea.
The other dances...well....that wouldn't be my taste.

I am doing something similar with the parent dances-- it is actually when me and my dad and FH and his mom dance- then we'll invite everyone else up- parents/children, etc.
The other stuff-- IMO-- I don;t think it is appropriate for a wedding.

I think the dance with your son is sweet. But take it from me, don't add too much of this 'extra' stuff. The reception will go by so quickly as it is - to add even more to it (like the competitions, etc) will take time away from the general dancing, talking, having fun.

Your idea is not crazy at all. As a matter of fact I plan on doing something similar. We also agree that the guest might get bored watching us dance so we decided on:
Our first dance the bridal party will join half way.
My father passed away so I will dance with my only brother. Half way we will ask all fathers and daughters & brother and sister to join us.
When FH dances with his mom, we will ask all mothers and sons to join in half way.
BooBoo its your wedding, put your spin on it and hun, your making it fun.

I agree. The mother/son dance sounds wonderful, either with just you and your son or including the other family members.

I think this just shows how really decent you are for thinking about other people and their experience at your wedding and I love the ideas, but IMO, I would keep the first one and then maybe just have everyone up and dancing for the rest of the night.

I love the first one... the only I wory about is that in trying to include everyone, you seem to be leaving people out. But I think you are on the right track.
