I went to Paul's veils today, and then stopped by the world beads and trimmings. I noticed that Paul makes his hairpins from buttons sold at the world beads. So now I am thinking of making my own hairpins from buttons? What do you guys think? I found cute buttons at Lou Lou Button 69 W 39th for $8/a piece, they're rhinestones in a shape of a flower or a daisy, about 1 inch diameter, with a larger center than the leaves... A bobby or a normal hair pin will definitely fit through the hole, but I just wanted to make sure I am not crazy for trying to make my own hairpieces.
So what do you think? Should I buy them and make my own, or continue searchign?

try it on your own...of they turn out nice, then you're set! if no, you can keep looking...you still have time.....i bought hairpins that sound exactly like what you said and they were super-expensive - like $40 a piece...

Yep, Paul's is charging at like $35/piece... So for half up half down, I am thinking 4 should be enough to allow some spacing in between them, right? Or should I get 6 just in case
Thanks

Try it out first and see how you like it and take pix for us to see. Nothing beats a trial but a failure.

Re: Is this a crazy idea?
The store clerk told me they would be open till 7pm, but when I stopped by at 6.45, they were closed I left work a little early just to get there, and they let me down I will go to their competitor (on the other side of 6th ave) and see if they have the same thing today at lunch, and if they do, 69w38 isn't getting my business... I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: Is this a crazy idea?
Ok, I looked around a bit, but nobody else had them... So I went and bought 6, and bought a bunch of bobby and hair pins. Now I just have to tighten it, so that it doesn't move around the hair pin, and then I'm done... I'll try to take a picture and scan it, but it may take me a little while, as I don't have a digital camera...
I also stopped by the Metropolitan Implex, and they had newer supply of hair pins, which were all really nice, but only one pair was symmetrical (i.e. it would look the same on the right/left side of the head - something I was picky about). They had one with a rhinestone flower and small silver/minirhinestone leaves -- very pretty, but again, it would probably only work if you don't mind them being all in one direction and putting them on all round the bun. They weren't expensive, only $12 == > so it would be $72 for 6.
I'll try to post picture of the final product later
