Is this a dumb idea???

I recently thought of a DIY idea and was curious to see what you all thought....

I want to name my tables instead of numbering them. while i am not really incorporating any sort of theme to my wedding, i thought i would do a 'Home is Where the Heart Is' idea for our table names.

At the placecard table I thought of making a large poster (would be framed) saying something like 'Home is where the heart is... . you will be sitting at a table at one of the places where Karen and Sean have called home' (NOT exact wording, I need to work on that.)

Then I was going to name the tables (our hometowns, the counties in Ireland my family is from, the town in Italy where FH's family is from, where we went to college/grad. school, etc. etc.

At each table there would be a frame with the name of the table as well as a corresponding picture (i.e. the seal of my college for the Fordham University table, or the crest of the county where my Dad is from for the Co. Donegal table , etc.)

IS THIS STUPID???? Be honest.... just don't want it to look silly or look like people are at a Sweet 16 or a bar Mitvah.... i am not going for a theme per say, but thought it might be a way to be a little more original....

I think that is a very unique idea, and it's not stupid at all.

no way, not stupid at all! I've actually seen something like this odne, but the table names were places the bride and groom had visited together. I think it's cute! Het I wanna name my tables after nightclubs me and my FH went to and I don't think that's stupid either, it's your wedding you can do whatever you feel like!!!

I thinks it's very cute.....it puts a nice touch on something that is normally very simple...just a number. It's unique and I think you're guests will get a kick out of wondering which table they are at. Plus, it'll be a conversation piece for the table in general, or you with your guests. I say go for it!

Its cute. We are going to do something similar with a travel theme... each table being a different country we've been to.

The only suggestion I have is that you make it clear what you are talking about... either an 'overview' of the theme on your table chart or an explanation at each table of the significance.... if I saw:
'Home is where the heart is' 'Dublin' 'Rome' 'Islip' 'Orange County' I dont think Id get it if I was, say, one of your parents friends...

I think it's very unique! Just reading that I could see the faces of the older guests when they see the names of the hometown in Ireland. I think it would be wonderful!
