When my secretary has a question about entering info into the computer she intercoms me, and If I have no clue what she is talking about, I wind up going to her desk. Shouldn't she come to me, if she is the one with the question. When I ahve a question I go up fron to her desk. It really annoys me becaseu I have alot of stuff to do and I feel like I am walking up front every ten minutes!! Sorry just had to vent.

Why don't you tell her that you don't have time to help her right then. Or tell her to come into you to talk so you can show her on your computer.

What kind of questions is she asking? Things she should already know? I guess it would be kinda' hard to make her come to you if it pertains to something shes currently working on at her computer. It would take just as much time for her to come to you and then for you to set up the circumstances she was under.
If the questions can be quickly resolved at your desk, I would tell her to come and see you. That way you can continue with your work until she arrives.

the questions would be where do I put the 1099R information from box 4 in the computer? If I had seen the form I would be able to answer her becasue I don't have every box of every form memorized.
Another thing is, she can't take i don't know for an answer, sometimes I really don't know the answer, so then she is like, well i don't think you understand what I am asking. When i understand the question but I have the foogiest clue as to how to answer it. Sometimes she just gets under my skin, and my boos is completly snowed by her.

are there any other employees who would know the answer better than you, such as other secretaries? Is there anyone doing work similar to what she's doing?

You dont need to have it memorized but she should. Tell her to look at past returns. A little initiative goes a long way.

Annoying! Sounds like she needs to take a little initiative.
Depending on the situation...I use: -stop by my office and I can explain it to you. kind of changes the behavior so they have to come to you and you don't go to them.
-What have you done so far to find the answer? or what have you tried so far and doesnt work? Starts teaching them they should seek the answers on their own and not come runnign everytime they have a question.
-Have you tried comparing it to XYZ for the answer? If you look at XYZ you should be able to figure it out. After looking thru that, you still can't find the answer stop by my office and We can talk about it. Teach them where to go for the answer rather than the easy way of asking someone else.
-I am in the middle of something right now so I cannot help you at this time, have you tried doing XYZ?
I have someone on my staff that is always marching in my office and blurtin gout whatever she has questions or wants to tell me. Usually very unimportant too. If I am on the phone, she will just stand their waiting. I think she is trying to show how hard she is working on things (she is new). I have used some of the stradegies above. Esp. I am in the middle of something, we can go over this later. Little by little she has gotten the message.

LOL. I AM the secretary. My boss has ADD so I would never ask him to come do anything at my computer anyway.
