I had to order business cards since I started going to Court and they only come in large boxes. I figured it was a waste to get them with my maiden name on them and have to throw them out once I get married so I told the partners to just order them with my married name
Does anyone think this is bad luck?

I do not think it is bad luck .. however .. my cousin is a lawyer and I know she uses her maiden name still because getting it changed is a pain in the arse. Just make sure this is not an issue for you before your cards are made with your new name!

i dont think its bad luck, just poor timing. if you have to pay for them go for it, if boss paying get ones now with maiden name and then new ones when you officially change your name

for the next month, i would get the cheap staples templates and use them. then once you are married use the new ones.

Nah not bad luck at all. If anything on theknot.com-- one of the checkoff list things, is start informing health insurance, mortgage, car insurance companies of your new name and to add your new spouse to your health plans etc....
You're just one step ahead..and not bad luck! =)

i don't think it's bad luck. I work for the same company as DH and they used my new last name for everything except my paycheck from the day I started back in January even though I wasn't official a Mrs until March. It made things easier for them.
I'd just be careful with the business cards because I have a friend who had issues with changing her name b/c of the hassle involving her lawyer info and what not. if it ends up being an issue, just get the free ones from vistaprint and pay the $4 shipping for now, otherwise use them and don't worry about your luck.
(on a side note, not to be a downer or anything, but i had another friend who started using her married name for business and then they broke up, which caused some problems for her when she went back to using her maiden name. it has nothing to do with luck, but it is something to think about professionally)

I am an attorney too and I agree with the above poster. The ABA, once you are admitted requires you practice under the registered name I believe - although I think you can practice under your maiden name in many circumsrtances despite the name change. I have not looked into the details as I do not intend to change my name as I have been practicing a while but if you are admitted I would look into this.

It's not bad luck.
If you're practicing law currently under your maiden name, you really should have cards with your maiden name on it - not your future married name. You have to give the business cards to the judge or court reporter a lot, so you should have one with your maiden name on it.
Your firm can get a ton of business cards for only $20.00 from Staples. I'd suggest getting a set in your maiden name and then just getting some in your married name after.

I don't think its bad luck that you ordered them, but I personally wouldn't use them before the wedding and all the official paper work has been filed.
