Has anybody ever commuted or know someone that has cmmuted from LI to Stamford? I was looking for work in NYC and have contacted about a really good career opportunity in Stamford. Dare I ask what the Cross Island is like in the A.M. ? I currently live in CT but I'm in the process of moving to LI. Would be traveling from Western Nassau.

Re: Is this commute doable?
I'm sorry sweetie, I wish I had a better outlook. But I think after a week the traffic would make me bonkers.

Re: Is this commute doable?
i hate to break it to you but its gonna be a monsterous drive....
best bet..take a day off during the week leave at what time you would think is best and take a drive out to the location if you can do this.
Also, take into account how much it will cost (tolls, gas, car maintanece) and sometimes people forget about this the ride home after a long day at work some people just cant handle that...i drive to manhattan everyday and i can handle the morning commute but sometimes i just want to cry on the way home from the traffic all i want to do is get home and relax
best of luck to you

Re: Is this commute doable?
I think the commute is doable. I have done audits in Stamford. The CIP isn't bad and usually the worst of it is after you go over the Throgs Neck and go up 95 and even that isn't that bad. I would think it would take about an hour from Western suffolk, which is similar to commuting to Manhattan on the train.

Re: Is this commute doable?
The job is for one of the big accounting firms. I was hoping it was for the NY office. Oh well
I'll have to see how the interview goes. I was thinking maybe I could do it for a year, but I would really have to think about it. I have about a 75 hour commute right now.
Hey thanks all for your comments. I really appreciate it !!!! Have a great day !!!

Re: Is this commute doable?
i used to do it alot from Huntington to Stamford - the mornign commute was never bad - but the evenning commute was bad
i knew a few people who did it - for an accounting firm you will prpably be working long hours so go in early stay late -commute won't be so bad
also if you can work flex time - work more 4 days then only have to commute those days

Re: Is this commute doable?
My husband drives from our home in Scarsdale (Westchester) to his job in Woodbury, LI .. its about 1 hour each way w/ot traffic. Overall while its not great, its doable. He is a saint and never complains , but it can get more than a little aggravating with all the crazy drivers and traffic, etc.
Your commute would probably be similar, though you continue up on 95 once crossing the Throggs Neck or Whitestone.
I canont say its an ideal situation, but weigh all your pros and cons and see if it works for you
Good Luck!!

Re: Is this commute doable?
Something else you may want to keep in mind is the winter. When it starts to snow the drive is going to SUCK. Try to find alternate routes too that way if there is an accident you don't have to rely on one route.
Good luck!

Re: Is this commute doable?
A friend of mine was on an Audit up in White Plains and he commuted from Atlantic Beach. Some days would be an hour and 15 minutes other days two hours. He was never used to a driving commute that long.
Your commute is 75 mins now so maybe if you're used to it you'd be ok.
