To buy a house 6-months before getting married - Is it even possible??

It's tough, but if you're a good planner/budgeter it's possible. We bought our co-op in March and got married in November. We saved like crazy, but at times it was a little stressful!

My FH and I went in to contract in mid February, closing in July and getting married in September. It is stressful sometimes and you feel like your spending every last dime on wedding expenses and the house, but the great benefit for us is that we do not live together now, so buying a house before we got married was great because then we don't have to get an apartment and then a few months later move again into a house. That is really what motivated us to take on both things at once.

We closed on our place 4 months before the wedding. I had a clear budget and am very good with budgets (DH can follow). We didn't have any problems and our savings has be recouping ever since...now it doesn't look bad at all!

It is very possible!! Peabody and myself bought our house almost two years ago and we will be married Oct. 1st. We made our decision to purchase a home instead of getting married at that time because we realized the housing market was getting ridiculous. There were many people who thought that marriage should come before the house but the ones who fully supported our decision were both sets of parents and our accountant!! It was the best decision we made.

If I had it to do all over again, I would purchase our house earlier! We are scheduled to close 3 weeks before, and the stress level has been much higher than we had anticipated! If I had of known it would be this frustrating and time consuming, I would have purchased the house about 6 months earlier!
It took us about 4 months of solid looking to find our house, and then there were some complications which led to a month delay in signing the contracts and now we are in the mortgage process, which I have heard can be a nightmare. On top of that we have been planning the wedding!
Its very stressful to try to do both, in my opinion, but I think in the end its so worth it!

We are in contract and expect to close on or around 6/1. We are not getting married to 10/4. It does get stressful at times and as long as you can get through that, it is worth it. My FI and I dont live together right now and this will save us from renting an apt and wasting money on that.

We bought ours almost a year before our wedding date. . .It's a little tight but we're making it work! We'll be able to 'breathe' after the wedding. I kind of wish we would have waited at least 6 months before so we could save more $ but the interest rate started to climb. . .I didn't realize the difference between 5% and 6.5% until we started crunching #s!!! Luckly we locked at 5

It's nice having the house early though. . . .that way everything is set BEFORE you get married. We are gutting our bedroom so we live at our parents' houses. . .I don't think that would fly if we were married!

Fh and I are about to go into contract on land and build a house. With any luck it will be completed right around our big day.
