Is this dress too formal for my wedding?

Is this dress too formal for my wedding?

I am having some anxiety over whether or not to buy another dress. We are planning to get married in October 2014 in a city hall ceremony. When I was doing my research I read everywhere that you cannot have that big wedding dress you’ve dreamed of all your life. I accepted this and began looking for alternatives. I recently purchased a summer dress online that dropped above my knees.(picture1,2)

After trying it on over and over again over the past month I’ve begun to feel that it is just too short and feel defeated because I can’t imagine finding a beautiful white dress that makes me feel like a bride. I was browsing on eBay today and fell upon a formal long dress.(picture3)

It is the perfect size and perfect price but that little person in my head is telling me that I will make a fool of myself if I show up in a long white dress… but I also feel that all of my wedding photos (going to a studio afterwards) aren’t going to have a wedding feel to it with a shorter dress.

It would help to mention that I also suffer from a social anxiety disorder so it is killing me to try and make this decision as there is the potential I am going to be overdressed for the ceremony. I am also thinking perhaps it would be better if I could bring it to a seamstress and have it hemmed to be slightly between my knees and ankles.

Any feedback on this matter would be very much appreciated!

I love it! My sister saw plenty of brides in wedding gowns when she was getting her marriage license

My friend got married at city hall in a beautiful, long wedding dress. Do what makes YOU happy! You want to look back on your wedding day and smile, not think 'I wish I had worn that...'

BTW, do you have a web address for that first dress? I love it and it's exactly what I want for my rehearsal dinner!

My friend got married in city hall and she had a long white dress. I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

You should wear absolutely WHATEVER makes you happy, but I have to say- I LOVE that first, short, lacy dress!

When we went to city hall to register as domestic partners, I saw people getting married in sweatpants and jeans and other women getting married in long wedding gowns with a veil and all. Wear what you will feel beautiful in. Both dresses are lovely!

When my brother and SIL got married last year at city hall my SIL wore a short navy blue dress. When we were outside taking pictures and getting ready to leave I saw a girl in a wedding gown. It's all about what you feel comfortable in. I think that both dresses are beautiful and appropriate for the situation.

I love the first dress!! In most of my wedding pics, it was of me waist up and I think the first dress will look very pretty. I love the lace - reminds me of Kate Middleton. But, really, the choice is up to you. If you want a long gown, go for it!

It's completely up to you, wear what you want to wear and what will make you happy!! Plenty of woman wear long gowns to city hall, so don't worry about it. I also have to say that I LOVE the short dress!

The short dress is so pretty. But if you want a long dress, you should definitely go with that. You can wear whichever and it will still be beautiful.

I actually really love the first dress. I think its gorgeous.

You have to do whats comfortable for you! Maybe if you want... you can wear the first dress for the ceremony and then bring the 2nd dress for photos?

There were plenty of brides in wedding gowns at town hall when FH and I went to get our marriage license. You would be fine in either dress. Wear what makes you feel happy. It's your wedding!! Both dresses are gorgeous!

I used to work down the block fr city hall and definitely saw brides wearing puffy bridal gowns and a veil. Wear whatever you truly want to wear! Its your day and you can make it whatever you want. But I do think the first dress is beautiful.
