i don't like the way the WCC place cards look (though i dont' completely hate them either)

Honestly, that is way more work than you need to really be doing and might look a little cheap.
What we did was printed the names on blank index cards (3 to a card) and cut them out. It was easy to print and cheap. Ours were hanging from a board, but it would've been just as easy to print 2 to a card, cut them out, and fold them in half. HTH!
ETA: We added stick on rhinestones and used an embosser on the corners to make them a little fancier.

I am using the place cards provided by the RH.. and I do not think ppl will notice those kind of little details.. i think they would care more that their name is spelled correctly then how the place cards looks.. maybe you can glue some kind of detail on the place card a stone

that seems like a lot of work to me for just place cards lol. you can find really cheap ones at Michaels that are pretty. that's where i got mine and they were $6 a pack with like 40 in each pack. i actually have 2 full packs leftover if you'd like them!
