I ordered my wedding dress at RK Bridal on May 15 and I got a call today from the seamstress that the dress arrived today and that I should come in for my first fitting.
First, how on earth does it take 1 week to order a wedding dress?
Second, why am I going for a fitting when my wedding is just under 1 year away?
Did they give me someone else's dress? Is this strange to you?

yeah, that sounds like a mistake. I heard it takes about 6 months to have a dress come in. And from what I heard, the first fitting is about a month or two before the wedding. I would call back and tell them that you just ordered it a week ago.

Definately sounds strange...I know my dress had a waist to hem measurement so when my dress came in, they made me come to make sure it was correct...Good thing I went, the dress needed to be sent back considering the measurement was off...
But the dress coming in only 1 week after you order...hmmm I would definately call them...Your first fitting isn't til 1-2 months prior

Cindy, maybe they have you confused with someone else. It doesn't sound right at all. I'd definitely call them.

Hi ladies,
I called them and they said the store had it stock and that is why it came so soon. He confirmed the dress and style number. They said I can wait a few weeks, but that I should come in for a try-on no later than 3-4 weeks after it comes in but they wouldn't do actual fitting an alterations until much much later. So, I feel a little better, but I still think it's strange that it came in one week. My receipt has the wedding date as my delivery date and says that 'all orders take approximately 10-16 weeks.' Argh!

Did you order a Davinci Gown - they come pretty fast.
I was told the same thing - come in and see your dress, make sure there are no problems etc.
Your fittings should start 8 weeks before your wedding.
BTW - don't schedual a try in around 1. They take lunch and were late getting back.

I have an Emme Bridal dress. It's no longer on the designer's website so I guess it's from an older line and comes in faster. Good to know about lunchtime. Thanks!

I would go anyway, just to make sure it's the correct dress and the correct approximate size. They'll do alterations MUCH later, but iin case it's the wrong dress or the wrong size of there's something wrong with it, it's best to know ASAP! Best of luck!

that does sound Weird ....the only thing that I could think of is they had a sample there in your size and thats what got shipped ...I would pick it up so they dont let anyone else try it on but I dont think that I would go for my fittings now -

Yes, sounds odd. Definatley go in there!! My shop said it'd be 6 mos for my dress (~7 mos before my wedding) but I should still come in to see it, just incase...so go in and check it out!! Find out what's going on!!

I have to say also ...even with my mothers dress they had one already made in her size and its still taking 5 weeks to come in .....maybe they called you by mistake ...

Wow....1 week and your dress came in already? I never heard of that before. So they want you to go in there, try on the gown and then they hold it for you for a year? I'm just shocked that it came in within a week. Keep us posted please. I'm very curious about this situation. It sounds so strange.

It sounds like they might have you mixed up with someone else whose wedding is sooner. Every place I looked said it would take a minimum of 5 months for the dress to come in. Good Luck!
