Is this normal? UPDATED

Is this normal? UPDATED

A close friend of mine got engaged about a week ago... I am SO happy for them, and also SO excited to have someone planning along with me! She had said a while ago that they would probably get married in May of 06, since they either wanted a fall or spring wedding, and that they didn't want to have their wedding too close to ours (which is November of 05)...

I talked to her today and she asked me if I would mind if they got married in September of 05 since its before us. (It's not definite) I think it was SO nice of them to ask how we felt :) And I really don't mind at all, except I know I would be jealous that they'd be getting married before us and they haven't been engaged as long... One of my other friends is making me feel like I'm nuts for feeling this way...

I'm not mad at all, just a little envious :) Is this so strange??

ETA: My friend emailed us all today- they went yesterday and booked the church and hall for September 10, 2005, so they will definetly be before us! Having the reception at the Fox Hollow... I'm excited for them, but still jealous

not strange at all, I would probably feel the same way... she might not change the date, so dont worry about it for now

I'm really not worried, and if she picks the date I will still be really excited... I was just wondering if I was strange for feeling the way I did :)

I think that's really nice of you not to care! I know some people that would be. My best friend just got engaged last month and when they were deciding on on their date she asked me if I would mind if they had it before us (summer '05 since she's a teacher)! I didn't care at all! I just want her and her FI to be HAPPY!

btw: They ended up going with summer '06!

I don't think its my place to tell her what she should and shouldn't do for her own wedding :) I know I wouldn't have liked it! I also think it was so thoughtful of her to ask if I would mind... they haven't made an official decision yet so we'll see what happens!

I WILL feel bad for my friends that will be in both bridal parties or invited to both weddings!! It's going to be a lot if they are close together!

We shall see!!

It's not strange at all. Our friends are getting married a month before us and we are a bit shaky on whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. I see it as.....on that day I will see all the attention focused on her but a month later it is MY TURN!!!!!!! That makes me feel better. Also, I see it as a trial run almost for any last minute mistakes that can happen.

I think it was really thoughtful that your friend would ask you how you felt. Even though she may get married 2 months before you, when your day comes, all the attendtion will be on you.

I think you are normal to be a little jealous but at the same time at least she asked ya know. I am prepared for one of my friends to elope before I get married. In fact one of them already did!

Totally normal. One of my BMs almost considered getting married a week, and even a day before me! It did not work out that way, thank goodness. You have every right to feel the way you do!

Its not strange for you to feel that way at all. As long as there isnt competition between the two of you things will be fine. As long as you both enjoy the whole process.

Re: Is this normal?

Thanks everyone :) I feel better for feeling how I do now...

She's actually already asked me for a lot of help because she's planning from CT. I saved a bunch of stuff for her and gave her as much info as I could. I'm glad there is no feeling of competition, because other friends of ours (who are already married) sometimes make us felt that there was, between us.

We'll see what happens... I will keep you updated! They won't know anything for a few weeks until the meet the priest but they are joining us on vacation next week so I can get more info then

No, you're not strange at all but I know what you're saying. People act like their date means no one can get married within like 6 months on either side for some reason. YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD PEOPLE!! This irks me to no end when I hear that people actually get upset about things like this - glad to hear you're not!

Re: Is this normal?

Looks like they are leaning towards September I flat out told her I would be jealous She knows I'm not mad, its just that for several months now I thought I'd be the next one and now we still aren't... We've been together the longest and will be the third of our friends to get hitched... I hate being broke

Not strange- My friends just got married and I wish we were them. We had to put off our wedding due to my FSIL having a baby on our wedding date. And then she lost the baby SO I am still a little sad that we are waiting until next summer even though I would have been rushed to plan in only four months.

Don't feel bad b/c you have had more time to plan your wedding and make every detail the way you want. They may not have much time. Don't worry.

Now tha tim thinking more. it sounds funny but my cousin just got engaged last week. She called to say the news. I was like to my mother 'i hope she dosn't plan her wedding the same day or month b/c what if some reletives go to hers and not mine. So I had some funny thoughts to about that.

Wow.. you are soo lucky to have a friend that would consider your feelings.. My sisters future brother in law got engaged after her and they got married before her.. Never even considered the repercussions to the family (monetarily) since their weddigns were barely 6 months apart!!

Yeah I thought it was nice of her to ask... at the same time I don't think she really had to... :) It's their decision to make but I am glad they wanted to consider how we feel into their decision.
