Yesterday i was so excited cause we were going to book Celestial Photo for our photography. When we initally met with them we saw a copy of a video from them, and it was good, but I wasnt overly impressed. So I visited another video company and fell in love with their work. Last night he asked us if we were going to book video with him as well, and I said I think im going to go with another company for video, he asked me who, and I told him, and he said the guy was a jerk, and that he gets in all his good shots.
All of a sudden I felt stress, because I thought I finally figured out who I wanted to use for photo & video. Now i feel like it is a problem to get them from 2 different companies. Brian (FH) says who cares go with who you want, and I dont have to please the vendors, but Im worried now Should I not care????? I think i care too much about what other people think and feel, and everybody tells me that, but my heart says I was making the right decisions.
Anyway, I guess this kind of a vent, but please help if you have had a imilar experience, or if it is really a problem to use 2 different vendors for photo & Video. Thank You!!!!
PS- I very very highly recommend Celestial photo, their albums are amazing beautiful, and they offer a lot of neat extras like all your pics on a website, and on a CD ROM. I fell in love with his style and he is a really down to earth guy!!!!

Re: Is This Normal...Help!!
I can't believe the photographer said that about your videographer! He may be a good photographer but speaking poorly of another vendor is not professional.
If you really love both the photographer and videographer, then go with both of them. As a photographer, he will be able to structure the photos so that the videographer isn't in the way. Perhaps you can suggest that the photographer sort it out with the videographer in a professional manner.
Can you ask the photographer for any brides who used that combination of vendors, then ask them what they thought about the two working together?

You have to go with who you feel comfortable with. It is possible the photographer just said that so you book the video with him. I used different vendors for photo and video and it was not a problem AT ALL. If you don't mind me asking, who are you thinking of using for the video?

I think it's so rude that your photographer said that-if he's so great and professional he should be able to deal well with other vendors--especially videographers--use who you want and let him deal with it and grow up a little--that is so unprofessional to bash another vendor in front of you guys or anyone

Ok, already a red flag is going up in my mind about your photographer - his comments whether they are true or not are COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!! I am using two different companies for photography and videography and both of them said that there is never a problem with two professionals working together - they know what they're doing and how to work together. In fact, before I even chose my video and photo companies I was planning on choosing two companies: one that specialized in photo and one that specialized in video. I had read that using companies that only did one thing tend to be better at it (or whatever they specialize in they're better at than the other thing). I would definitely say go with your gut - otherwise you'll be unhappy. But, I also might reconsider your photographer choice if I were you - he might purposely make things difficult and he's definitely not demonstrating that he is a professional.

I also think it was extremely unprofessional for you photographer to say that about the videographer, but I would go with who you feel more comfortable with.
IMO if you weren't overly impressed with the video that the photographer showed you, and you would assume that was his best work, then don't go with him for video.

i think as with everything, some people get along and some don't - we are lucky that our video and photo guy like each other - in fact, even our dj knows them and loves them too (coincidence but when he asked who we were looking at b/c he might have a recommendation, he almost squealed!)..but i have heard stories about them fighting at weddings and tryign to up one another...and it does happen, perhaps you should see if you want both or maybe keep looking for two 'professionals' who can get along.....
in all though, if you like each then book them, the guy could also be just sayign it to try to book both video and photo! - try talking to him about your concerns, and also talk to the video guy before you book, try to read them and if you think it won't work, maybe keep looking.....if its meant to be, it shouldn't be a problem - but in my opinion its not worth having them both if they will ruin your day!!

oh, and you could even ask the video guy for suggested photo guys too - they will probably have suggestions and be of similar quality too!

Re: Is This Normal...Help!!
I am using wild rose video which means that I will have someone different for photography. My feeling is that these people are professionals they should know how to work with each other and not get into each others way. Most of my friends have used different companies for photo and video and have not have problems.
I would be very leery of a vendor who pulled that on me. That would be a cross off of my list. I would look at a statement like that as he either is trying to get me to book him for video or/and he is not professional.
I would look elsewhere for your photography. They have already expressed concern that they won't get your photos if you don't do video with them why take the chance that this guy can only work with HIS video person.JMO
