As many of you know, my Dad passed away in April. My friend is going to give me away and I was also planning on dancing with him. But I haven't been able to come up with anything that feels right. And now I think I know why. Because it's Dad's moment!! Anyway, what I was thinking was when it comes time for the father/daughter dance, I was going to dance with my FH to 'I Loved Her First'. To me, it will feel like my Dad is there and singing to the two of us.
What do you think?

There is nothing wrong with your idea at all. May I suggest something though? Since you and FH will most likely be having your own first dance with a different song, why not just play a song dedicated to your dad and have no dance....just a thought....otherwise your idea is great

i think that's a good idea, but also would you like to have a photo montage of your dad (especially those of you and him together) with the song that you would've danced with him - caution: it might be a tearjerker, so have the tissues available.

I thought about the photo montage but decided against it. Just think that would put everyone over the edge, you know? Just playing that song and feeling like he's saying it to FH & I makes me feel really good and although it may be a little emotional, I think it will be nice.

I understand it might too much to see the pictures of your father. The idea you have with just playing the song will definitely allow you to imagine him there and will allow your father to have that special moment in your wedding.
Also have you thought about having the empty seat with a single rose next to your mom during the ceremony? That way he can also be represented there as well.

what about if you had your first dance with your honey and then play another song dedicated to your dad at some other point in the reception and invite everyone up to dance to it. Either a slow song or his favorite peppy song, or a song that is very typical 'him'. I'm sure whatever you do will be so lovely and touching it almost doesn't even matter. it's whatever makes you feel that you are honoring your dad in the way you want.
