Re: is this reasonable?
Honestly, it depends what is important to you. If you wish to spend money on entertainment that that price isnt bad. But if your focus is on food, then it can be pricey. We decided that music was the one vendor that we would not sacrifice to save money. IMO, food gets digested and flowers die. But in terms of entertainment, if it stinks, then your pictures will also stink because nobody will be smiling and dancing in your pictures and video. Those arent the memories I would want.

Re: is this reasonable?
Most of the bands I saw were over $5000. So I booked a DJ with 2 live singers and a percussionist. Something a little different and a lot cheaper than a band.

DJ's range from $600 - $4K for the ones we contacted. $600 is Vinny from High Voltage and $4K is for a DJ/MC from www.totalentertainment.com. The ones in between include things like live singers, giveaways, smoke machines, intelligent lights & a plasma screen to display photos and such.
Bands we contacted range from like $3800 - Niteflight in the off season to $25K - Soul Solution (www.totalentertainment.com) but they were willing to come down from $25K for the off season.

Re: is this reasonable?
It is reasonable, my friend got married in July and her band was 7,000.00. When my cousin got married in 1996 he paid $4500.00 I booked a D.J with a three piece courtet for cocktail hour and a percussionist to back up the D.J. for 3,000.00.

Usually, they are about $5,000 or so. That is why we went w/ a dj. The dj was great tough.

$6,800 is about average for a band-but it should be a decent sized band (like 9 piece)...$3,400 is an awesome price!

Re: is this reasonable?
My band was 9pcs. They go for about $4800. But you could see if they would scale back the number of band members and make it cheaper. Honestly, if you want live music get it. There are plenty of bands out there that don't cost $6800. Please let me know if you want more info. The band is Niteflight.
If they offered you half off for booking on the spot there is something wrong with that. Doesn't sound right.

Re: is this reasonable?
the cheapest quote has been $4800, most were more like $8000. my friend did the DJ with a perussionist and i thought that was a cool compromise. If you got a quote for $3400 for a band you like, sign the contract -- it's a great deal!
