My hall told me that they recommend 5$ per person for maitre'd so at 285 people that 1425 which sounds a lot ........i mean we are already paying a lot for hall plus we have to tip everyone else.....urghhhhhh

Well according to what I have heard you are SUPPOSED to tip about $3-5 per person - but IMO I think it is your discretion and what you can financially afford .....

$5 is way too much! i think $2-3 is standard unless they go above and beyond.

According to the tipping article on LIW, no one person should get more than $150....so unless he's sharing it, I would say that $200 is enough...IMO.
Plus- I'm so poor, I can't afford a $1000 tip- thats just ridiculous.

thanks girls....i think im gonna do 3$ per person unless they are really amzing and im feeling generous.....who else has to be tipped the bridal attentand limo photographer and band right?

that is the standard i think. we gave our maitre d' $4 per person, so about $400 was given to them.

i think it should also depend on how many people you are having i mean if i was only having 100 guests then 5$ perperson would only be 500 which isn't bad but at 285 people we are talking about almost 1500.....big difference
$5 is a lot. Most RH recommed 2-3. We are probably doing 2, rounding it up to an even round number.

My hall has a set fee for the maitre d of $750. At first we were pissed that it was a part of our contract but now I am starting to think that we are making out on the deal.

We're giving our guy $500 flat....which is about $5 aperson but that's only because he's doing the job of the Maitre 'D, the Coordinator and the Bridal Attendant.

i was told by my RH (and have read in bridal books and mags) that it was $2-3 per person - and of coourse you should base it on happy you are with their service - $5 p/p with 285 ppl sounds a bit much
