Is this right??? - Opinions
So I got a phone message today from a Limo company who said they got my name from the Reception hall I just did my foodtasting with (won't mention which one on here). Is it right for your potential hall to start selling your name to other vendors? Has anyone else experienced this? I am upset by this.

Most reception halls do this, once FH & I started visiting halls, way before we booked the crest hollow, we started receiving phone calls & mail from various vendors who were given our info from the different halls. If you pick up the phone & they ask to speak with you & you know its a vendor, just pretend your'e someone else & take a message, that's usually what I do if I'm not interested in hearing their sales pitch over the phone.

Well, this one went on my answering machine bec. I wasn't home. But I have caller id and I can't even pick up the phone anymore without checking who it is because I get so many calls from vendors. I figured they were getting my name from websites I signed up for and mailing lists at expos, but I didn't think the halls would give out my name. I thought that info was for internal purposes only.I guess it's standard pracitce, but I just don't think it's right. Oh well, just had to vent a bit.

They all do it, they even give out your names when you haven't signed yet.

Unfortunately it's true. I still have people soliciting bands and my wedding is this month!Leave your answering machine on b/c you're going to hear from everyone that is recommended by your hall. These people pay the caterer a lot to be recommended and get their 'lead list'
You should be able to call your caterer and tell them to take your name off the list, however it may be too late if you've already received a call.

Well actually, the recommendation came from a hall I didn't sign with yet (which is what angered me even more). I'm am going with a different hall, and when I do sign with them, I'll tell them to take me off any lists. I'll contact their vendors myself. Thanks for hearing me vent ladies!
