I think it's really pretty - it doesn't sound sad to me. I'd use it!

NOOOO.

it's in all the scary movies involving pianos. I'm being serious!

I really wouldn't. I alway associate it with morbid gloomy things.

eta: i STILL think the song is beautiful and it really does make the hairs on my neck raise but it has a gothic feeling.

In Pop Culture
The 'Moonlight' Sonata is often favoured for use in suspenseful or emotional scenes in movies and television. Here are a few examples:
• In the 1990 movie Misery, based on the Stephen King novel, the First Movement is played during the disturbing scene in which Annie Wilkes breaks Paul Sheldon's feet with a sledge hammer.
• The First Movement also figures into the first Resident Evil game.
• In the children's cartoon The Smurfs, the Third Movement is frequently played during dramatic parts of the story.

there is more, i'm certain of it. It's very distinctive

eta: The Pianist is another one. Any movie about the holocaust=tearjerker

'The piano music heard in the abandoned house when Szpilman had just discovered a hiding place in the attic was the Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. It would later be revealed that German officer Hosenfeld was the pianist. The German composition juxtaposed with the mainly Polish/Chopin selection of Szpilman. '

it's very pretty but I agree, I think I hear this song a lot in movies when some is dying or somethin bad going on.

Especially with that picture in the background of the youtube video - it looks like a war between heaven and hell LOL

Crashing to say I don't think it's sad at all. I think it's a beautiful song.

And, I actually associate it with 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown'.... Schroeder plays it to Lucy.
