Would it be tacky to include in our X-Mas cards a question about making the trip to Buffalo in February for my shower? I was just thinking along the lines of asking them to reply yes it is possible or no it is out of the question. I need a headcount roughly, but hate to call each person individually.
We are really undecided where to have the shower and all that due to a possible large difference in the number of people due to only having one shower here and not there.
Does this make sense???

It sounds like invites haven't gone out yet, since you're not sure where you're having it? If that's the case, I wouldn't ask yet since your guests haven't officially been invited. If they have an idea that it will be in February, maybe you can just write 'looking forward to seeing you in February'.

No, the date hasn't been decided on due to if a lot of people do end up coming from LI I would have to have the shower at a restaurant; if a lot of people don't/can't come, we would just have it at our house.
I am afraid of having one of two things happen...putting a deposit down for a place and then everyone decides they can't come and lose the deposit and/or falling way below the minimum number of people required to have it at places.

I don't think I would put in in the Christmas cards. It would be kind of strange. I know you'd rather not call people, but it's probably the only way to get your answer.

Are you hosting your own shower? I would let the host of the shower deal with the guest issues. Your Holiday Cards should not be used as a pre-shower invite IMO.

I agree that it shouldn't be included. You could include RSVPs when you send out the invitations.

I don't think I would include it with fear of confusing people.
Could you ask your MIL or someone on LI to casually ask around to get an idea of who might consider it? That might give you enough info to decide to have it at home or at a restaurant.
