Is this unusual?

Is this unusual?

My fiance' mentioned to me tonight that his mother & sister would like to get ready at my house and have their hair/make up done there on the morning of our wedding. Is this an unusual request?
I am having just a MOH and assumed that it'd just be us and my parents (& brothers) at the house getting ready the day of & having that time together before the big day. Doesn't it make more sense for them to spend the morning at their house getting ready... with HIM??
I'm a little confused and I don't think my fiance' is very happy with me that I said I'd prefer that to not happen...

IMO the girls ususally do get ready together, in fact I was speaking with my FH today that if his groomsmens girlfriends wanted to spend the morning with me and my bm's that they could, but I think that since you are not doing a bridal party and therefore that he will not be with his groomsmen that it is a little strange, but it might be a nice bonding time with your in-laws. I guess what it amounts to is what you feel most comfortable doing, if you feel that its not the right thing then stick with that.

I'm sure my mother and sister want it to just be the three of us and my dad. However, I am having his three sisters in our bridal party. So for me everyone will be together. Not sure if my mom will go with everyone at her house. If not I will have everyone at mine then. But I think you should do what makes you happy and comfortable. If you want to spend time alone with your family then you should!

Is your FH getting ready at his parents house? I would have assumed that his mother would have wanted to see him get ready, take pictures, etc. I've been in a few wedding, SILs have been at the brides house because they were in the wedding. I've never seen the mother there. I know my FMIL will be going to a salon the day of and getting ready by herself.

Maybe they want to get their hair and make up done? I was in a wedding once where the groom's mother got her hair and makeup done with the bridal party, and then left to go get ready and be with the groom. BUT the groom had all the grooms men and they were drinking and whatnot.

I am sure they would love to get their hair and makeup done also, but don't they want to be with their son and broher when they get ready for the wedding? That to me is a memory.

I think it's weird and I wouldnt really be into that idea, either. Mil should be with her son, and if sil isn't in your party, she should be doing her own thing too. JMO

This is what my FMIL is doing. I'm actually going to be at the hotel the night before so I'm having my whole bridal party there in the morning to get ready and I invited FMIL to come get her make-up done then she's going to our house to help FH get ready.

I am doing this too. All of the girls, including FMIL will get ready at my moms house. ONce ready FMIL will go and be with my FH and ride in the limo with him.

I would think that she would want to be with her son taking pictures and getting ready - that's what my MIL did.

I appreciate your responses, ladies!

I am getting ready at my house and he is getting ready at his house 15-20 minutes away.

Re: Is this unusual?

I've been in a few weddings and usually the only people who get ready with the bride are MOB and BMs. I get that they might want to be included, or maybe just to use the same makeup/hairstylists, but id, I agree with you. The day of, I'd like to get ready with my family/friends.

Also, depending on who else will be getting ready with you, it's worth addressing these concerns: is there room for everyone where you'll be? And will your stylists have time to take care of everyone without rushing through their jobs?

My MIL and her mother came over in the morning to my house to get hair and makeup done, they were not there for the entire morning but they did come by. I don't think it is unusual at all for them to come.

I don't know--maybe it depends on your relationship? My FSIL and FMIL will be with me on the morning of getting ready--I can't imagine it being any other way.

His mom will be in photos so she prob wants her hair and make up done. Makes sense. Maybe they dont have to stay the whole time. Who knows, but honestly thats over a year away, there are TONS of other things to worry about. As far as you and FH, in my experience, this will be one of MANY compromises you will have to work out in your lives together. I suggest picking your battles. Good Luck!

I agree with this...in fact I asked my fmil if she wanted to come to my house since all my BM's and my mom will be with me.

Sounds like they just want to be part of the action. If you don't mind, let them come and feel wanted!

Not unusual. They just want to get their hair & makeup done. It doesnt mean they will stay. Talk to her and ask her what are her plans for the day of.
