I would like to send out my save-the-date cards a little early. Like in May or something. Really for the out of towners and the people who are from NY, yet want to stay at the hotel anyway. I want them to be able to reserve a reasonable rate and the Inn is kinda pricey. Is it dumb to send them early? I feel like I am moving at an unreasonably fast pace for someone who is not getting married until 2006.

honestly, you probably don't want my answer. But I think it is crazy. It is too far in advance. No one even has a 2006 calendar!

It would only be 3 months early. Most people send them out 11-12 months in advance. Actually, the reason I am asking is that East Wind actually suggested it.

Re: Is this wrong?
I sent mine out exactly a year ahead because I have a ton of out of town guests. I think it is completely your decision. The Inn is pricey...did you get a rate from the Best Western in Riverhead? If not call them because they also provide a shuttle to and from the Inn. Good luck!

I don't think you're crazy! HOWEVER, if you send them out in May, people (who don't really pay attention to things) may get confused and think your wedding is 8/05, so I would wait until after your date.
Just my opinioin!

Well I am a fellow 2006 bride & I will be sending mine out either at Christmas time with their cards or exactly 1 year before the date...I don't think you are moving too fast though!

I agree with azoodie. In addition, if you send it too far in advance, some might cast the STD aside seeing that it's all the way in 2006, and might not make reservations so early on. I would do it when your hall suggested. YOu shouldn't have to worry about hotels won't be booked up... most places aren't in such high demand. However, I believe you can call the hotel to put a hold on a certain amount of rooms come May. I suggest posting about that, too, to brides who've done this. I believe I've seen stuff on here about that.
Good luck!

Re: Is this wrong?
I think May's a little early. I'm going to send mine in December 05 (I'm adecember 06 girl)...so you don't confuse people. I honestly don't even look at the year on STD's, and I assume it's the same year. i JUST got a STD for an October 2004 wedding, so it isn't unusual to send them in my for an august wedding, so I'd wait until the wedding date has passed. People don't need more than a year. Rooms don't get booked up that quickly and the farther in advance you send them out, the more likely people are to put it aside and then forget ALL about it. It's better to send them out in the range of time when people will actually be looking for hotel rooms and marking it on their calendars.
