Just wondering.....Let's say you spend over $550 to be in a good friend's wedding (for dress, shoes, bridal shower expenses, etc). Do you also give the bride and groom a wedding gift. Or is your presence, support and money throughout the wedding process a sufficient gift???

I get what you're saying, totally, but i think you are still expected to give a gift. Good question!

I've spent a lot more than that between dress shoes etc, hair, makeup, bridal shower, and Bachelorette Party and still gave a very nice gift. I think its the right thing to do.

I'd give a gift, even if you can't afford much, just something.
I had a BM complain about money the entire time so I pretty much bought everything for her. Last minute she decided to pay $120 for her own dress but that was her only contribution and she didn't so much as give me a card let alone a gift and it stung a little.

I agree with the other girls, even if you spent a lot of money...giving a gift is still proper etiquette. The hope is that when you get married, the ppl that you were there for will also be there for you

I say do what you can afford especially in these times but for ME I would never not give a gift on top of everything I have done to be in the bp.

Still give a gift. I know for my best friend's wedding, we discussed not exchanging though because we were getting married 3 months apart...

I'd definitely still give a gift... even something small if you can't financially manage something more.
The way I look at it... if you accept being in someone's bridal party you are accepting all the additional expenses that come with it.
hope this helps

Re: Is this wrong?......
My best friend (MOH) gave me a really nice brand new coach bag for my shower gift and didn't give us a wedding gift. I didn't expect one from her at all. She spent enough on me already.
You have to do what works for you. If you can afford a little something, it's certainly a nice gesture -- even a card and a picture frame is really sweet. But it's up to you.
