Is your reception hall...**ANOTHER QUESTION ADDED**
requiring you to add a seperate response card to the invitation asking the guest their choice of entree??? Here is what my banquet manager emailed me when I told him that Ive never heard of response cards which require an entree choice.. ETA: Alot of you girls are saying its pretty normal outside of NY...here is my next question, would you find it weird or stupid if you received an invite that requested this information?
Mildred, Yes the guest are asked the evening of the reception. The seperate response card with the dinner choices is strictly for kitchen preperation. If the invitation company doesnt do response cards,i suggest you try elsewhere.Believe me,every wedding is done this way. Please call if any other questions. thanx, jim

Re: Is your reception hall...
where are you getting married?? this is very typical outside of new york -but most places in new york keep enough of each entree available so that people can order at the table - restaurant style.

Re: Is your reception hall...
My hall doesn't require that. I have received an invite that did require that --its so the hall can approximate how many of each entree to order for the night of. It's not always like that but its not uncommon.

Well, I am getting in New York..but upstate...maybe its a bit different up there. I mean, its not like I cant add the extra response card since I am DIY my own invites..but I just wanted to know if it was weird to do it that way.

**come to think of it-- I think the weddings that I attended were probably out of NY-- one was Conneticut and the other in NJ

Re: Is your reception hall...
I have heard of this and it's pretty common outside of tri-state i believe..when looking at invite samples I saw the extra line 'Choice of entree' chicken or beef or fish etc etc

It is not common in New York at all, but outside of NY it is. My friend is getting married in NJ next weekend and we had to pick our entree choice when we sent back the RSVP.
He actually got the entree choices printed on the RSVP response card.

Re: Is your reception hall...
I went to a wedding that required me to select my entree before the wedding date. I forgot the name of the hall but it is somewhere in Suffolk.

It's pretty common outside of NY. At my RH, the guests choose that day, but most of the weddings I've been to elsewhere, you have to respond and choose in advance.
ETA: I wouldn't feel weird if I received this in an invite, even in NY.

Uhm, that's a good question, I wouldn't think it weird or stupid just odd, but only cause I haven't seen it before! I would choose chix and then wait till I see the actual menu!!!

i honestly dont think its stupid b/c its logical to me if you think about it that the kitchen would like to know approx. how much to make of each dish.
I might think its a little bit weird though b/c ill be deciding what im going to be eating in a few months, what if i change my mind?

Hi Millie!! My cousin's wedding was upstate (Kingston) last summer and they included a card with their invite that asked what entree we would like. At first it threw me off, but we knew what we would pick anyway, whether we were deciding 2 months prior or on the day of. What is the name of the catering hall your getting married in?? Now I'm curious if its the same one. FM me if you'd like.

you;re getting married upstate??
thats the norm there so dont worry. I wouldnt think it was weird bc thats how many places outside of the Metro area do it....
When people on here say 'NY' they mean the metro area not the whole state of NY.

Re: Is your reception hall...**ANOTHER QUESTION ADDED**
I've been to weddings in NY that asked for entrees...back a few years ago....and i asked my chef if she wanted me to add it to my RSVP and she said if i could that would be great so i did...so far no one has said 'why the heck do i have to pick my meal?????' hahah...but i am not one to care about following rules or etiquette either when it comes to wedding crap...my motto is 'If you don't like it, don't come' good luck!

I had to do this for my cousins wedding and I think it is fine. Do what the hall wants in order to ensure the best service.

My hall isn't requiring that, they are providing a menu for each guest.

Nope-we are not required, nor were we asked to do this.

It actually is common in NY, just not LI or NYC. I went to a wedding in Peekskill (45 min north) and was asked that.
If that is what they are asking for, don't you kind of have to ?
