I am getting married at the Watermill in November and we are trying to decide which hotel to block rooms at: Islandia Marriott or Sheraton They are both very similar in price and amenities. The Marriott is a little closer to the Watermill. Has anyone used either of these hotels and have feedback? Good or bad? Thanks

I went to a wedding at the watermill and the room block was at the Marriott. I thought it was a really nice hotel. The rooms were nice.

we went to sheraton and the rooms were just ok... they also only comp at like 50 rooms- not room nights! they dont provide any shuttle. the 'suite' is 2 regular rooms with a spiral staircase in between.
but they do have a nice lobby & restaurant!!
this is the one in hauppauge.
ETA- we stayed at the holiday inn ronkonkoma when my friend got married at watermill, but this was over 10 years ago.... we visited for our hotel block but did not like that the non-smoking floor also smelled like smoke ( i had just quit!)

I booked the sheraton for my room block and had the presidential suite the night before and the night of our wedding. the room was fantastic to get ready in. Make sure you keep on top of them about adding extra rooms to your block the closer it gets to your wedding - but that goes for any hotel. The bar stayed open later then usual for us that night since there were about 15 of us still down there in the bar area. All in all, no complaints. any specific questions, let me know and I will try and answer them.

the sheraton has 3 different suites, bi-level, junior and presidential depending on what price point you are looking to spend. with 15 rooms booked we got the presidential suite for 295 per night - reg price is 495. they comped my parents the junior suite at the room block price of 115.

either way that is really expensive for the area and compared to the alternatives.

I guess it all depends upon your needs. I needed a suite that 6 of us could get ready in at one time. this worked with 2 bathrooms, little kitchette area, dining room area and seperate bedroom. At one point we had 20 people in the suite that's how big it was. So for us if fit all our needs and I would have paid full price - but I understand that it doesn't fit everyone's budget.
As far as the room block, 115 was the going rate if not higher that weekend for all the hotels.
But with my comp & my parents comp, I did very well.

this sounds a LOT different than anything they offered or showed us. they really should try to show any potential client all of the rooms.... most vendors do so, in case your needs change along the way. oh well!
the regular/ block rate seems comparable.

That's terrible that they only showed you the bi-level. That was a horrible set-up. She showed my mom & me that first and we said no right away, then she took us to the junior. I said that that was was better but still not what I was looking for, then she took us to the presidential suite and it was a done deal. It even has a fake fireplace that looks beautiful in the pictures.
Sorry you had such a bad experience with them. I know that a couple months after I booked the whole staff in that department change. The women I was dealing with was tranferred to GA I believe. I had to stay on top of them after she left.

I booked with the Sheraton and had a horrible experience. They never added as many rooms as they were supposed to, 3 days before my block ran out they ran out of rooms (not just in my block, in the whole hotel), the staff changed constantly, and everything with them was an uphill battle. It worked out great once we got enough rooms. The bar is really nice and the lobby has many nice meeting areas, but not worth the hassle. It was the most stressful vendor, and I feel like it should have been the most simple.

I agree with you, it was an uphill battle with them. I had the same problem being told that the hotel was sold out, it wasn't. I complained enough and they put the extra people into my block as I called in with their names. Hotels never want to give you alot of rooms in the block unless the bride is going to guarantee with a credit card, I was not will to do that.

I visited both hotels for a room block. I cannot express to you how disappointed I was with the Sheraton. Overpriced, small rooms, and just got an unprofessional vibe from the whole experience.
Marriott was much brighter, cleaner, friendlier and better rooms. Oh, yeah... and they were cheaper.
A friend works near both hotels and he always tells visiting business people to avoid that Sheraton.

I am also getting married at the Watermill in november. We saw both of those hotels and we actually really liked both of them, but I ended up booking with the Hyatt because the rates were the best. Everyone I spoke to was really helpful though!

I looked at the Sheraton, Marriot and Hyatt. The rooms in the Sheraton were small (they also didnt show me all of the rooms) and Im hosting a brunch the next day and the brunch room was small. The Marriot was nice but they are redoing the dining room so I couldnt see what it looked like. I booked the Hyatt. Nice rooms, nice dining room and same price as the other 2

I have stayed at the Marriot several times and I liked it. The breakfast in the morning is good and we actually go there sometimes on Sunday just for breakfast. They have a decent size pool. Only one time by the window they had a few ladybugs but it didnt bother us.

Have you tried the Hyatt Regency? It's not one of the prefered vendors but they are about 4 miles away and the hotel is Huge and has it's own restaurant. rates are good too. staff is professional.

I used the Islandia Marriott and LOVED it. They were so nice and treated me like royalty the entire stay. They even left us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for when we got back. Anything I needed while getting ready they had (except a curling iron lol) but they were really great about everything. I would definitely stay there again as our hotel block.
