Isn't a rehearsal sort of necessary?

Isn't a rehearsal sort of necessary?

FH thinks we won't need a rehearsal or rehearsal dinner. I think he's nuts. I have only been to one wedding (I will be going to another one in October) and will not feel comfortable not knowing exaclty what I am supposed to do and where to stand. And MOH, Jr. BM and FG have never been in a wedding so I feel it's a necessary thing to do. But FH doesn't want to do it.

What do you think?

I could be wrong about this, but I would think that you definitely need a rehearsal. I would think, however, that you could be creative with a rehearsal dinner. You could do a barbecue or have appetizers at someone's house. I don't think it necessarily has to be a fancy ordeal in a restaurant. But, I definitely could be wrong here.

I think it would just make me feel better having one. I was a BM in a wedding last year, my first one, so we had the rehearsal and the priest was like ok so blah blah blah and then u blah blah blah, it lasted about 7 minutes and was really a waste of time. When we got to the church the next morning we were like ok now what ahahah. fh's parents are doing the rehearsal and dinner, but even if they werent, i definitely would do it!

the dinner may not be necessary but I think the rehearsal is VERY important...

I did not have one. I think it depends on where your ceremony is going to be.
We got married at the place, and they told everyone where to stand, what to do, etc.

We were fine, no worries.

i have been in 3 weddings and none had a rehearsal. 5 min before the ceremony the had us line up in order bride arranged and told us when to start walking and to what side to stand on. no problem at all.

I am not having one. Many people who have their ceremony and reception in the same spot don't have one. I am really not worried about it.

we arent having one, at FH they pretty much tell you what to do right before you walk down the aisle.

also, in jewish weddings you almost never have a rehearsal...

we are still having a 'rehearsal dinner' though, but it is more of an attendants dinner iwth a few out of town guests as well

I've been in four weddings and they all had rehearsals. I actually found them really helpful even though they never lasted more than 10 minutes. Your BP will be a little nervous at the wedding, especially if there are kids (flowergirls, etc.) so it's good for everyone to have an idea of what to expect. Also if you're having a religious ceremony and any of the BP aren't that religion, it's good to give them a heads up about what all the rituals are.

I see your ceremony is at the same as the reception. My FBIL and his wife did the same. They did not have a Rehearsal dinner, but about 1 1/2 hrs before the ceremony, took turns, first the bride and bridal party then the groom and bridal party doing a 'rehearsal'. The ceremony was short and sweet so there was not much to go over. Good Luck.
