Issue with friend's shower....

I'm the MOH at my friend's wedding in Oct. She lives in FL now, moving to NC in the summer. The BMs and I are making arrangements for her bachelorette party which will be in Virginia where her parents live- it will be in the summer. The shower will be held in the late morning and the bach. at night.

I called the bride today to get some info on guest lists- and in the middle of our conversation asked who was throwing her the shower. We had talked about this when she had gotten engaged months back and she said that she thinks her mom and their neighbor were doing it. Well, today she says that I'm in charge and that it's up to me. I said, oh, well, I didn't know that- where are we going to do it? She says, Oh we can do it at my mom's.

I didn't say much more about it bc I am kind of confused. I don't mind organizing it while I'm organizing the bach. party. But does that mean I have to cover the costs of the shower too or share the costs of the shower with the other BMs? Plus, it seems a little awkward that I would arrange for the food/drinks when I'm coming from NY and her mom is right there!!

At my bach, my MOH (not the girl who is getting married now) and the BMs took care of everything. But a close friend of my mom's threw one of my showers. I know etiquette says that family members don't throw showers for the bride but I didn't think it would be up to the BMs to do the shower as well!!

What do you think??

I know it may be akward, but why don't you call her mom. Tell her that BM said that she thought it would be ok for the shower to be at her house and you just wanted to check on dates. Then ask her what, if anything she plans on contributing to the shower. Let her know that it's going to be difficult for you to plan a shower in Vermont and you'd appreciate her help. In all fairness, since the shower will be at her house, and there probably won't be too many guests, it probably won't be very expensive at all. Ask her mom to handle the catering and tell her that you and the BM will take care of favors, decorations, invitations and the cake. I think that's pretty fair and you can assign each BM something different to be in charge of.
