Issues with my FMIL
So last night we (my FH and me) went out to dinner with both our sets of parents. I had high hopes it would go well and for the most part it did. However, my FMIL annoyed me a couple of times.....
1. At dinner she toasted to my fh and me having children. Its like come on let us enjoy getting married first before we have to even think about children. Also, she's the one who wants her and her husband to move to Pennsylvania. Its like well if you do that you can't see your grandchildren as much as my parents will.
2. She asked me for the billionth time if I am positive we won't have a problem getting married in the catholic church! My FH doesn't want to raise our children RC or any religion at all and I've accepted that and know we can come to some agreement down the line. The priest that is marrying us, knows this already and accepted it as well. Especially since he knows nowadays people have other opinions with things that the church wants their parishioners to do. So my FMIL thinks it will be a problem when the priest asks us the question during the ceremony if we will raise our children catholic. I keep explaining to her I can just have the priest change it by asking us if we agree to having children. This just keeps bothering me because instead of making this a happy time she keeps being a downer.
3. My great Aunt brought back from Italy a handmade tablecloth and napkins as a engagement gift for us. Last night when we came back to my parents house, I showed it to my FMIL. After I took it back from her hands, there was a fingerprint of tomato sauce. I saw it the second she gave it back but I couldn't be rude and say something. I know she didn't do it on purpose but c'mon your touching a tablecloth that was handmade, shouldn't you make sure your hands are clean? She even just mentioned 'Are you going to use it when Mike doesn't eat so he doesn't get it dirty?'
4. She told me last week that she is going to start looking for a dress despite her knowing that its customary for my mom to buy a dress first, so my mom can tell my fmil what color to get.
forgot this one until now - 5. She doesn't think we should have our rehearsal the day before the wedding. Our church does the rehearsal for Friday weddings either Thursdays or Wednesdays and since we have OOT bridesmaids, I figured it would be easier for them to have the rehearsal the Thursday before the wedding. My FMIL of course, needs to express her opinion that she thinks that would make it two busy nights in a row for everyone.
Sorry for the long post but I really needed to vent! Thanks for listening!!![]()
