Italian American Brides !! How crazy is everyone making you??!!

Hi Everyone,
Just wondering among the Italian-American crowd how you are all coping with your plans and your families! Also, anyone doing anything special to commemorate/celebrate the italian culture during your wedding?

your post made me laugh out loud, especially the wording of the invites. LOL my mom is already finding ways to be acknowledged as the 'MOB.' when i told her i did not want to do the 'football stadium' style entrance with the announcing she got mad that she would not get announced. LOL

My father is off the boat Sicilian. There were a few things that we 'had' to do. No DJ, we are having a band...they really are great...they sound just like a CD, they play all kings of mucis wiich is really good, SO I don't mind that too much.

My dress is strqapless and my mother is having a huge problem with that. I had ordered thin beaded straps to attach but when I saw my dress, I told her that I didn't want to wear the straps and she through a fit...telling me that I am to bear on top...like the staps will cover ma at all...

As far as the extras, they have been ok...nothing too bad...Thank Goodness my FH family isn't old fashion.

Licia - I'm having Opera 3000 too! I definitly felt that they were a good compromise for all the Italians and me.!!

I totally understand the dress situation. My mother doesn't think its appropriate to have strapless - something about indecency in front of the priest! It will be interesting next month when we go dress shopping!

What area of astoria do you live in?

It is too much with the picture situation and she actually wants those pictures in my album. One with each separate aunt and uncle. Umm i dont think so! my album is only 50 pics...hello! i didnt even do it for hers. Just the one group picture that we took at the hall...that's it! LOL

I'm Italian/Irish (3rd generation), but FH's family is really Italian (1st generation) so I'm enjoying reading all of these posts. It's giving me a look into my future :)

And again a big thanks to the girls that have shared their info about the Italian bands with me.

I think I may have more to worry about with FH's off the boat Polish family (FH included) than he has to worry about my Italian relatives.

)0bedda - I forgot to mention this. In regards to photo albums, I'm preparing myself for the worst. When my sister got married she had a nice photography package where she got her album and two parent albums. When my mom heard that her parent album would have only about 20 pics, she had a fit! She had a customized album made that is like the size of my sisters! I can't even lift it (traditional wedding album from 10 years ago )

Wait until I tell her I want a coffee table book and she will get a mini of that!!!

By the way.....Anyone having family flying over from Italy? I know I am and I think they all plan on staying at my house that day!

My mom's large (as in number) side of the family is 100% Italian and I'm very close to my grandmother who feels that I need to invite every person whose wedding she went to as 'payback' as well as those she knows will give 'a big check'. The one thing she is really big on is that we get married in a church, which we will. As far as Italian traditions at the wedding we weren't planning on anything specific except maybe to play 'That's Amore'

I know the family will be scrutinizing the amount and quality of food so picking the right reception sit will be very important!

The one thing that has been getting to me is the whole 'what will people say'? Attitude???

Why is it all Italians are worried about who is gonna say what and who can top who???

They should have a sport in the olympic's!!!!!

I laugh when my dad tells me stories from when he was a club date musician and played lots of Italian weddings. He said he remembers the little old ladies who would always give cash and never seal the envelope until the end of the evening. If they had a good time, they would add some more. If they had a bad time, they would take money out!!!
