Hi Can anyone advise me of any traditions you have used or plan to use in your Catholic ceremony or afterwards at the reception. Thanks H x (Rewritten questioning from Student!)

Re: Italian traditions and catholic ceremonies
We are having 5 Jordan Almonds for both the Ceremony and Reception. According to Italian tradition, the 5 almonds symbolize health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity.

Many Catholics (I've seen this at Itlalian weddings as well as Irish and Latino weddings... I did it at my Irish wedding) leave flowers at Mary's altar. After communion (if a Mass) or after lighting the unity candle, the bride takes flowers and walks to mary's altar (most churches have one, to the left of the main altar) and leave them for Mary. A Marian hymn such as Ave Maria or other 'Mary' song is sung here. the bride traditionally stays there for the length of the song and most usually say a Hail Mary or what not at that point.

I wasn't aware anyone else took flowers to the Virgen. I'm Mexican and plan to offer flowers to the Virgen de Guadalupe at the altar. Traditionally, they are red roses. My mother and grandmother will hand me the roses and they are an offering for a healthy marriage and fertility. I've never seen it done before....I love the idea of Ave Maria being performed during this.

I've never heard of that before. Maybe I just never paid attention when I was at the wedding. I know they've sung Ave Maria.

we also gave a blessed mary bouquet and during the ceremony placed in front of the statue. I didnt know this before either, but our florist asked if we need this bouquet and until she told me i had no clue. We found out later from the church

we did the same thing - we were given this option by our priest and we were able to add another person to offer the flowers during offertory - too many family members and friends wanted to get involved in the ceremony - it was nice to be able to incorporate this

The bouquet offered to the virgin Mary, is this an Italian tradition or a c atholic tradition? Is it a small posy or something specific?

it is done in the catholic church so its a catholic tradition. Its a regular flower bouquet, i think ours might've been with roses. All our church flowers were delivered directly to the church that day and all set up before i got there, and MIL had the bouquet, i saw it for a brief moment and cant remember exactly what flowers it was right now. But its like any normal bouquet

It is a CATHOLIC tradition. Many Catholics do it... It's very popular with Irish, Italian and Mexican brdies. However, it is NOT required that you do it. I have been to plenty Catholic weddings where it is not done. Don't feel like you have to do it. I happen to have a strong devotion to Mary and I liked the idea of praying to her during the Mass.
